J0rdan S., Monday, 14 January 2013 16:36 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i've never loved that song but i can appreciate it as a lead single, especially now

some dude, Monday, 14 January 2013 16:37 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i feel totally different about that song now than i did even three years ago

J0rdan S., Monday, 14 January 2013 16:38 (eleven years ago) link

sexy back got much better after the album came out and you heard "my love" and you were like oh this sexyback is jsut a club song not like the statement

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Monday, 14 January 2013 17:00 (eleven years ago) link

"LoveStoned" is the only track I feel like listening to these days

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 14 January 2013 17:00 (eleven years ago) link

"sexyback" is the best song on FS/LS

lex pretend, Monday, 14 January 2013 17:03 (eleven years ago) link

and always was

lex pretend, Monday, 14 January 2013 17:03 (eleven years ago) link

apart from when it wasn't.

tsrobodo, Monday, 14 January 2013 17:07 (eleven years ago) link

which was most of the time.

tsrobodo, Monday, 14 January 2013 17:07 (eleven years ago) link

I heard "Until The End of Time" last summer for the first time since late '07 and thought it wasn't as limp as I once thought

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 14 January 2013 17:08 (eleven years ago) link

As we get older, our standards of what qualifies as limp get frequently revised.

Zero Dark 33⅓: The Final Insult (Eric H.), Monday, 14 January 2013 17:09 (eleven years ago) link

well that's depressing

DJP, Monday, 14 January 2013 17:11 (eleven years ago) link

"Until" was the jam

some dude, Monday, 14 January 2013 17:19 (eleven years ago) link

"sexyback" is the best song on FS/LS

yep

"Sexyback" was almost the best song on FS/LS.

"What Goes Around.../...Comes Around" was the best.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 14 January 2013 19:05 (eleven years ago) link

Take away Jay-Z and the intro and I basically love this. Isleys vibes.

Deafening silence (DL), Monday, 14 January 2013 20:11 (eleven years ago) link

for historical accuracy's sake

SEXY BACK??? IS THIS A GOOD JUSTIN COMEBACK??

The Reverend, Monday, 14 January 2013 21:17 (eleven years ago) link

i will dance to this song while all the haters pout in the corner

max was the otm person in that thread tho

The Reverend, Monday, 14 January 2013 21:20 (eleven years ago) link

let the record show that i was otm about the kanye west daft punk song too

max, Monday, 14 January 2013 21:23 (eleven years ago) link

This thing reminds me of Don't Disturb The System for some reason

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 14 January 2013 21:26 (eleven years ago) link

It left me pretty cold this morning and I still can't get passed the intro and Jay-Z verse to fully recommend it but I like its mild electrogroove.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 14 January 2013 21:43 (eleven years ago) link

it feels like it should be facile to bring up the other white R&B guy but there really are like 20 Robin Thicke songs that do this exact vibe a million times better

some dude, Monday, 14 January 2013 21:45 (eleven years ago) link

not sure Thicke would be above using the line about dinner and the oven though

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 14 January 2013 21:46 (eleven years ago) link

Tom Waits def not above using it

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 14 January 2013 21:47 (eleven years ago) link

I def get Thicke vibes from this.

queef ka queef (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Monday, 14 January 2013 21:47 (eleven years ago) link

thin mix ithough

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 14 January 2013 21:48 (eleven years ago) link

but jt begat thicke in the first place

bish (bosch), don't kill my vibe (rennavate), Monday, 14 January 2013 21:50 (eleven years ago) link

not really, nothing about Thicke's sound is derived from JT in any way

some dude, Monday, 14 January 2013 21:53 (eleven years ago) link

<img src="http://www.biography.com/imported/images/Biography/Images/Profiles/T/Alan-Thicke-227603-1-402.jpg";>

begs 2 differ

but anyway i think thicke recorded his first record before Justified came out?

xp

keef qua keef (Jordan), Monday, 14 January 2013 21:53 (eleven years ago) link

i mean maybe you could make an argument that he set a precedent career-wise but the nature of Thicke's success and what his biggest songs sound like don't line up xp

some dude, Monday, 14 January 2013 21:54 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i mean career-wise, vocal style wise, even, not song-wise

bish (bosch), don't kill my vibe (rennavate), Monday, 14 January 2013 21:57 (eleven years ago) link

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7K7orMOHqY

never forget

DJP, Monday, 14 January 2013 21:57 (eleven years ago) link

that song is ridiculous but dope

voice-wise they can be similar, especially in falsetto. but i think it speaks volumes that Thicke's big breakthrough came out less than a month after FS/LS but "SexyBack" and "Lost Without U" represent such vastly different approaches that only the hackiest hack would've dwelled on the comparison for too long.

some dude, Monday, 14 January 2013 21:59 (eleven years ago) link

If you compare "Justified" to "A beautiful World" the comparison bears even less scrutiny.

tsrobodo, Monday, 14 January 2013 22:35 (eleven years ago) link

after about 15 listens, I've decided it's not a disaster. i'm ok with it. fingers are crossed for the album to make me forget about it

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 01:34 (eleven years ago) link

i actually really did hate sexyback in the beginning! definitely on the low end of that album for me

i like the beginning of "suit and tie" a lot but the thick(e) of the song is generic, kind of sounds like he's doing beyonce on first listen

surm, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 01:50 (eleven years ago) link

it's not miles off from "love on top" or "lay up under me" territory

The Reverend, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 01:58 (eleven years ago) link

after a few spins I still find the track pretty fun but it's true that Jay's verse is much too long and meh.
as someone said, the structure of the song is weird, especially for a single, but why not.
it's a pocket rnb symphony !
"sexyback" was great (but less than "my love").

AlXTC from Paris, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 10:56 (eleven years ago) link

yeah exactly xp

surm, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 20:08 (eleven years ago) link

but 'love on top' is amazing (although it probably wouldn't stick out as much without those key changes)

keef qua keef (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 21:03 (eleven years ago) link

This is pretty great, clunker of an intro expected. His voice is really different!

Matt DC, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 21:13 (eleven years ago) link

hahahahahaha that intro really terrified me but once it got past that, dope

Bel-Air the Fresh Prince, sitting in a chair (DJP), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 22:06 (eleven years ago) link

I wasn't equating them quality-wise, just saying they're both working similar aesthetics.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 22:12 (eleven years ago) link

very similar, with JT throwing in some avalanches for good measure

doesn't seem to quite make up for the insignificance of the tune tho

surm, Wednesday, 16 January 2013 00:14 (eleven years ago) link

It was great to listen to "suit" this morning, in the bus, with the sun shining on the Seine !
I don't mind the intro now.
only jay's part is still boring. that said, he wasn't helped by the fact they made him rap on the slow part. I think it wouldn't be that boring if his rap was on the funky part.
anyway, glad JT's back !

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 16 January 2013 11:17 (eleven years ago) link

reminds me of that thing someone said like he could have been the new MJ and he decided to be the new ashton kutcher...
