This show is closing in on Brian Jones-like levels of alt cool.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 14 January 2013 03:45 (eleven years ago) link

um that was the first episode i've watched... like, if i wanted to be stuck at a bad party with unpleasant people who wouldn't consider me for a one-night stand i'd just respond 'yes' to my facebook invites on a more regular basis

this ep was actually better/funnier than most of last season

johnny crunch, Monday, 14 January 2013 04:30 (eleven years ago) link

I wasn't drawn in by this as much as I was by the s1 premiere but it does make me look forward to the rest of the season

i really want to like this show but really do not like this show

J0rdan S., Monday, 14 January 2013 05:50 (eleven years ago) link

one thing that bugs me is that it feels very disjointed to me, like she has no idea how to write for television

"like she has no idea how to write for television"

perhaps what TV needs!

Have reserved s1 at the library, shd be about 3 months.

Adam Driver said in the NYT that ppl don't recognize him in winter "until the ears come out."

i like this show much more than i thought i was going to.

( ͡° ͜ʖ͡°) (sic), Monday, 14 January 2013 14:34 (eleven years ago) link

perhaps what TV needs!

Only Morbs would (winkingly, I concede) poo-poo the current surplus of riches on TV by suggesting that what TV might need is someone who doesn't know how to write for TV. Like Dunham surveyed a week's worth of awesomeness that's almost as impossible to catch up with as an issue of the New Yorker and figured, hmm these shows are all so well written, acted, directed, generally well put together, and their stories so dramatically/comically compelling and entertaining, maybe if I approach it from a different direction ...

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 14 January 2013 14:51 (eleven years ago) link

i ran into the dude who works at the coffee shop on the show at union pool awhile back

rap steve gadd (D-40), Monday, 14 January 2013 15:12 (eleven years ago) link

JiC, take those "riches" to the hype bank.

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Monday, 14 January 2013 15:23 (eleven years ago) link

i didn't think this was such a great return; paled next to most of last season. hope it improves.

akm, Monday, 14 January 2013 15:34 (eleven years ago) link

Morbs, you don't like any recent or current TV? It's really good, and a lot of it is free!

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Monday, 14 January 2013 16:47 (eleven years ago) link

hurting, does that really bother you? the complaint seems a bit reaching, imo.

― jed_, Friday, 11 January 2013 18:52 (3 days ago) Permalink

I don't think it would have bothered me so much if the world of the show didn't seem so exclusive and rarefied and snobby in this sort of underhanded way where being a truster in a shabby apartment seems to be the only acceptable way to be. Also the VC guy was way over the top, although it almost worked in a Paul Thomas Anderson sort of way.

space phwoar (Hurting 2), Monday, 14 January 2013 16:58 (eleven years ago) link

Anyway, pretty much the same issue I have with the same show generally -- good because it captures a certain kind of 20-something worldview so well, bad because it actually is written from such a close distance to that worldview that it sometimes lacks self-awareness.
