don;t you get it, jjjusten? guitar players want pedals to look like an ironic bowling shirt. 2013 is gonna be the 1996 of the 2010s!

said the brohaim to the cochise (how's life), Thursday, 10 January 2013 01:36 (eleven years ago) link

Nice to see that all those unsold Zunes were recycled.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 10 January 2013 05:06 (eleven years ago) link

And what will all the unsold Fender pedals be recycled into? NAMM is going to be another unadventurous pile of 'so what?' again this year (aside from the new Moog synth).

some other people i have been wondering about- anybody have any opinions on jhs pedals? the usa ones, not the brit john hornsby skewes stuff.

basically my love of supro thunderbolts was drawing me to the superbolt. seems like dude has made the all-time mistake of responding directly to accusations of copying/bad build on harmony central, which is concerning to me

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 10 January 2013 16:41 (eleven years ago) link

He apparently was ripping off Devi Ever pedals?

said the brohaim to the cochise (how's life), Thursday, 10 January 2013 17:31 (eleven years ago) link

ok thats definitely not cool

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 10 January 2013 18:17 (eleven years ago) link

and that's not the only low-down business he's pulled. avoid.

sug life (rogermexico.), Thursday, 10 January 2013 19:16 (eleven years ago) link

yeah that's a bummer.

arby's, Thursday, 10 January 2013 19:20 (eleven years ago) link

in a weird bit of serendipity, proguitarshop just did a fb post advertising their new line of jhs pedals, devi ever shared it advertising them as $200 Hyperions, both of em got in a bit of a comment tiff, then both posts got taken down.

heard good things, but never really delved into the wampler stuff.

Glad you connected with cbread at last. Super good dudes. They're coming out with a tapey delay that's def got my interest.

inste grammophon (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 22:04 (eleven years ago) link

btw dude did you see that my long attempts at catalinbread have finally been realized

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 22:06 (eleven years ago) link

talked to mike (assuming thats the same mike) for a while on the phone and he seems like a good dude.

initial order is:
echorec
callisto
merkin fuzz
dirty little secret
formula 5
semaphore tap
royal albert hall

anything missing in there that i am sleeping on? order hasnt shipped yet.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 22:07 (eleven years ago) link

lol xpost. yes! hope it's a long and beautiful partnership. M1k3 is a great guy. N1c and H0w4rd, too.

One thing missing from that list imo is the Naga Viper. People misunderstand the "treble booster" but the Viper kinda perfects the rangemaster and if you put one in front of a DLS anyone who digs a thick, greasy, saturated tone will get it immediately.

inste grammophon (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 22:32 (eleven years ago) link

ill prob get a naga viper on this order (it was right on the cusp) but if not, it will def make the next one

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 22:34 (eleven years ago) link

Just never demo it into a clean amp :)

inste grammophon (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 22:40 (eleven years ago) link

haha oh yeah, i know the drill

what didn't you like about it? i think it's pretty tasty on guitar + vox tbh! i have to be v careful when running synths through it, i tend to do a reverse DI to get into to it, responds much better that way.

i mean, ~BRAGGIN~ i've got the space echo re201, a couple of 70s eventide units and an echoplex (now broken wahh) and while it doesn't sound like any of those it's got it's own thing going on and i really like it!

Crackle Box, Thursday, 7 February 2013 15:37 (eleven years ago) link

sorry, should have been more clear. i'm sure it's a rad echobox, just longstanding general wampler beef that's probably should have been water under the bridge a long time ago

inste grammophon (rogermexico.), Thursday, 7 February 2013 16:09 (eleven years ago) link

didn't intend to poop on your new pedal day, btw. i hadn't clicked the link, just saw JJ's reference to wampler and shot from the hip.

inste grammophon (rogermexico.), Thursday, 7 February 2013 16:18 (eleven years ago) link

hey, btw, anyone tried the carl martin compressor? i have a customer thats interested in one, and i want to tell him that $270 for a comp is str8 up crazytown, but i dont want to totally dismiss it w/o hearing it.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 7 February 2013 16:21 (eleven years ago) link

isn't the Carl Martin Compressor one of CM Punk's finishing moves

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Thursday, 7 February 2013 16:22 (eleven years ago) link

Wampler should partner with Disney/Lucasfilm and come out with a Wampler Wampa that sounds like this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQzo6YpVbcs

Not really up their alley though.

how's life, Thursday, 7 February 2013 16:22 (eleven years ago) link

i also in a only semi-related note prob need to find a decent way to start doing online sales now that im the only dude selling half of these pedal lines in the midwest. anybody have any experience with that stuff, prob talking abt less than 500-1000 skus i imagine.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 7 February 2013 16:27 (eleven years ago) link

The truly great thing about this pedal is that it’s not only Telecaster style guitars that it works so well with, it brings the best out of your Strat or anything you may have loaded with humbuckers.

Love this description from Wampler's website.

how's life, Thursday, 7 February 2013 16:29 (eleven years ago) link

Carl Martin stuff sounds good but also runs at strange wattages and have their own built-in AC cables. I tried using their pre-amp and it sounded great on its own but was noisy when interacting with other stuff. I'm not sure if it's the same thing with the Compressor; website says it runs at 2.8 watts. A friend of mine uses a Quattro and the compressor sounds very good but there are maaany more obvious, cheaper options

i have a list of my fav pedal manufactures somewhere but i can't seem to find it, from the top of my head:

http://www.fredric.co.uk/ - north london hand made stuff, well nice

http://sitorisonics.com/ - again, hand made, tested, quality stuff

http://zvex.com/ - do lots of interesting things i haven't seen elsewhere

http://deathbyaudio.net/ - uh, yeh more nice stuff

i am officially out of control, just added these to the mix:

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 21 February 2013 17:03 (eleven years ago) link

I like that all the controls are inside. I want to set up a great sound and leave it there and not have to worry about knocking something out of place.

how's life, Thursday, 21 February 2013 17:04 (eleven years ago) link

I should actually learn how to reliably play my guitar before I start buying these things, right

This beat is TWEENCHRONIC (DJP), Thursday, 21 February 2013 17:08 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, it's really clever imo, and he seems to have geared his build choices to stuff where that makes kind of obvious sense (both boosts, and the compressor) or more and more sense the more you think about it (fixed sensitivity on the filter, fixed volume on the octave up, and fixed speed on the tremolo). the only one that gives me a little pause is the fuzz, but whoa it is a badass sounding fuzz, so i cant really complain, esp since it's a set gain w/volume and presence controls inside.

xpost hah tell that to half my customers

Just had a terrible idea to make pedals shaped like bento boxes. You could tweak a piece of sushi for depth or a brocolli for rate.

cf www.danarmstrongeffects.com

Dan each fx added makes u a better player by 1 belt level. FACT.

inste grammophon (rogermexico.), Thursday, 21 February 2013 20:07 (eleven years ago) link

oh yeah, there are def clear dan armstrong antecedents to this stuff (esp the orange whip/orange squeezer) but having heard the da stuff, this has the advantage of being way lower noise, and in the case of the comp just plain sounding better. plus hey, i get to give money to a dude that lives in the same city as me

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 21 February 2013 20:25 (eleven years ago) link

totally! dig the notion of booteeky armstrong boxes.

note to self: reading/posting from phone makes me sound like a crusty killjoy itt :(

inste grammophon (rogermexico.), Thursday, 21 February 2013 20:27 (eleven years ago) link

i should post some gut shots, these things are beautiful inside - dude appears to be an EE by day, which explains a whole lot imo. just popped open the clean boost and there is a 10 way dipswitch row that allows you to have it buffered or non buffered, and engages 2 trim pots that adjust bass and treble cut and boost, plus a third trimmer for output level

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 21 February 2013 20:43 (eleven years ago) link

lol you're gonna run outta room in there.

this has me wanting a choad blaster (demo toward the end):
