It's a (sort of) privately-expressed opinion that sheds light on attitudes that are relevant to his work. It's not worth getting mad over but it is illuminating. Actually it isn't really, it's not remotely surprising that Perpetua would condescend to young girls while holding po-faced reverence for past-it indie bands.

My bad, Alyssa Milano and virtually everything she's been in has basically zero profile over here and I didn't bother to actually google her. That was a pretty dumb assumption to jump to on my part, but he IS actually talking about her like she's a young girl. Like why is he giving himself a pat on the back for a 40-year old having listened to or (gasp) thought about not-terribly-obscure records that have been around half her lifetime?

Because Alyssa Milano did, at one time, have a terribly high profile over here, especially among people in Perpetua's age group, and it's like I said way upthread...he probably feels pretty cool atm for making a list that she saw and liked enough to retweet to a gazillion people. Perpetua hate amongst certain groups on ilx is way over the top.

I've known the guy for fifteen years, before ilx even came into existence, so I guess I just feel like I can read him a little better than some people around here and, yes, he's capable of being a completely infuriating blowhard and warped perceptions on some topics, but he's ultimately harmless and really not worth all the heated discussion he generates at times.
