Can you tell us a bit about how you recorded that? Synths? Guitar feedback? Contact mics on a motorcycle? It sounds kid of like all of those but I can't figure out how it was done.

we recorded some engine revs not long ago and it was a very satisfying result

onto a sabian china cymbal on a carpeted floor, with the mic sort of squished between the cymbal and the floor. I ran it through some compression + distortion but didn't do any knob tweaking during; the sounds you hear are just my doing different things to the cymbal. The rapid-fire engine sound is just me twitching my hand near the mic/pressing the cymbal lightly into the carpet. I ran it through my bass amp and propped up my Zoom H4n so it was right in front of the subwoofer.

I recorded this in the middle of last year. A homemade contact mic taped to an inkjet printer, put through effects, including a pitch correction plug-in that outputs MIDI notes, controlling a soft synth.

yeah, and it is just two chords, so that helps too! i think our version turned out OK, it's an iphone basement recording gussied up in garageband, so nothing fancy.

yeah the original recording is just me on guitars/vocals and the drummer, but i added bits and bobs (and a doubled vocal) later. i too am sort of surprised at how nice the quality is! we just put the iphone over on the washing machine and play. modern technology!

yeah i hope to use a recording device that isn't a phone in the future! but yeah i agree, i think if i try to *really* record i'm going to have to do some sort of distinctive production, my playing isn't good enough for a straight-up "close mic'd acoustic guitar" sound

you should just throw the iphone tracks in Garageband (or whatever DAW you have available) and experiment with some mixing/effects/background textures. i'm a big fan of lo-fi, carelessly recorded elements mixing with clean in-the-box synths or whatever.

i have access to protool....i can't use it very well though...good idea

I try to straddle a line between my stream-of-conciousness indulgence and something which could hopefully work on the dancefloor. It’s hard to talk about your own music without sounding pretentious isn’t it?

I feel like I can relate to it. I'm attracted to certain kinds of music that not only sound like I like it, but sound like something I would want to do. A few of your tracks have that vibe for me.

I stayed 3 months in an uninsulated cabin (ala Boniver) recording house music with my buddy. I'm proud of this track but I have no idea if anyone would actually dance to it. At the very least, if you give it a listen, I thank you.

It's not one of my tracks, but I took on a recording project for a local metal band we have played a few gigs with that didn't have a demo. It was a chance to record and mix some stuff that I had never done before, including a huge double kick kit and a band tuned down to I think Bb.

You guys like the electronic music more on this side of ILXor, but you might find this interesting. I don't think the production turned out too bad for being recorded in a living room in suburbia with a couple mattresses against the windows to keep the Romanian neighbors from calling the cops.
