My boss to me about fifteen minutes ago:
"Have you put in your manual how to reach the various county websites?"

me: "No, because anyone who has ever used the internet knows how to do that."

Him: "I am interviewing several people who have never used the internet before so you have to consider it!"

He also asked me to write out instructions on how to find out someone's phone number without their address and vice versa.

I guess this means he plans to hire someone who is really stupid?

Hmmm, has the deadline passed on this?

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:28 (twenty years ago) link

Ha ha, Mr. Mann.

What's especially funny (well, kind of) is that almost everyone has asked for a higher salary than I would have been getting had I stayed!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:30 (twenty years ago) link

"Be sure to type out those instructions on how to type! Also maybe a page or two about how to read -- I can imagine that being handy for some of these applicants!"

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:32 (twenty years ago) link

I dig his Arsenio finger.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:32 (twenty years ago) link

You think I joke Sarah?

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:33 (twenty years ago) link

You don't want to move to Richmond, Huck.

I am sick of work today. No, I am calling in sick to work today. Well, e-mailing.

Right now, my cat is on my chest as I type this on my bed, and she seems pretty happy with the whole arrangement. I live to serve!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:35 (twenty years ago) link

Are you playing into my contrarian nature, Chris? Counting on the idea that the more people tell me not to do something, the more likely I am to do it?
Fuck, yeah! Richmond! Is it warm there? It was minus 33 (windchill incl.) here this morning. Would I be free to lick lampposts? Free from tuque-head? Free from darkness from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m.? Plus, as I understand it, Va is for lovers!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:39 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah but Sarah and Nick are leaving, so they'll have to revise that.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:39 (twenty years ago) link

Also you'd have to learn to call it "hat-head" (It took me a while to figure out what Anth was saying when he said I had tuque-head, and I was well prepared!).

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:40 (twenty years ago) link

Also they get hurricanes, which -- OK, hurricanes are cool, forget I mentioned it.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:41 (twenty years ago) link

It is a balmy 45 degrees F. right now in Richmond. It is dark from about 5:00 PM until about 7:00 AM though. We get hurricanes and earthquakes.

Chris, Sarah and I are totally going to use your bad art of us for the Petrified Forest album if it's ever done.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:45 (twenty years ago) link

Cool. I want $. ;)

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:47 (twenty years ago) link

It is now 44 degrees. There is a projected low today of 24 and high of 51. Sunny.

You know, I love Richmond, but I also love Virginia in general. There are lots of people here (ie: almost all of my friends) who complain that it sucks all the time. I say, if you don't like it, move! I'm not really moving because I don't like it, but because I would like to try living in a bigger city that has more going for it culturally. Also, I want to try out not living in the south.

If you were serious about having my job, why didn't you ask a long time ago?! I could have easily hooked you up. My boss would much prefer me to tell him who to hire than to have to go through all these interviews.

But I'm sure that, honestly, you would not want to work with him, though I am certain you would be the person to put him in his place.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:48 (twenty years ago) link

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:49 (twenty years ago) link

shit, wrong thread!

My black eyes make me look soulless in that pic.

Black Hole SUn, won't you come...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:57 (twenty years ago) link

A telemarketer just called for my boss. When I came on the line she said, "I asked for #$#% #$%$##!" I said, "I'm his assistant, how may I help you?" She goes off on this long boring schpiel that she's obviously reading from a script. I interrupt her, "Excuse me, do you have anything you could just FAX or mail to us and we could take a look at it?" She proceeds to tell me this is a GREAT opportunity and she is so busy with people who are actually interested in the product over the phone that she is not going to waste her time talking to me!

Be

OTCH.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:09 (twenty years ago) link

"But you just did!"

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:13 (twenty years ago) link

Uh huh. She already wasted some of my time.

I'm being crazy and wearing my hair down at my desk right now. You know, Friday afternoon - letting it all hang out.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:23 (twenty years ago) link

It's not like they're gonna fire you, you might as well let it ALL hang out.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:26 (twenty years ago) link

What does that entail exactly, Casuistry?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:27 (twenty years ago) link

Well, I don't know, I'm not a lady.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:28 (twenty years ago) link

as george jones used to say of dolly parton: "i can think of two big reasons..."

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:43 (twenty years ago) link

I'm gone, probably for the whole weekend. Luna, remember your vow!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:27 (twenty years ago) link

Later, Huck!

I've still got an hour and a half left of work today. I'm still hammering away at these expense reports. Blah. But soon I will be home for the weekend. :)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:29 (twenty years ago) link

I wish my fingers really were that long. I like how it looks like my flesh is bubbling up on my right arm.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:32 (twenty years ago) link

Now, I only have 49 minutes left of work today. Just wait until next week's countdown. :-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 December 2003 10:07 (twenty years ago) link

Hey, Pink!

I didn't get to relax as much as I'd like because there were parties... (Friday night I was too tired and stroppy and went home early, and apparently missed Suzy & Ed) but we watched a lot of DVD's and movies - and even went to the Cinema! I like the Curzon! Yesterday was nice. Had dinner with 22 old friends - I was really nervous about it, because I was scared that someone I hate was going to be there, but he didn't show up, and lots of people I didn't expect to be there *did* show up, and it was really fun!

I can't believe I've only got a week of work left... my god, I'll go into ILX withdrawl, and how I will miss you guys while I'm in the country!

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Monday, 15 December 2003 10:13 (twenty years ago) link

Hi hi,

I had a lovely weekend with Sarah - we didn't do a great deal more than just hang out, and it was smashing. We went to my parents for dinner on Saturday, and had a really nice chat with them - they're pretty ace people. We also dressed their Xmas tree, which is a pain in the arse but kinda satisfying when it's all done and sparkly :)

Then yesterday we did some chores, I visited my grandmother, we watched the Leeds v Fulham match, had a takeaway curry, and watched Poirot. It was a pretty great weekend, actually.

On the minus side, I think my Italian grandmother is probably going to die pretty soon. She's 92, so it's the proverbial good innings, but still.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 15 December 2003 10:54 (twenty years ago) link

Ha-ha, you watched Poirot, too? I normally wouldn't be caught dead watching ITV, but I got sucked into it. (OK, I think partly HSA just wanted to oogle the cute guy from Queer As Folk. What is about that guy? I think he's attractive, but he seems to send normally straight guys all gushy!)

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:06 (twenty years ago) link

Not me.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:57 (twenty years ago) link

Liz made a load of mulled wine on Saturday - yum! We consumed with Sainsburys LUXURY mince pies!

Yesterday we watched The Royal Tenenbaums and Patrick Keiller's London. A spur-of-the-moment decision in Iceland meant we had Haggis for dinner - I made mustard mash.

Dancing to pop music also happened.

robster (robster), Monday, 15 December 2003 12:14 (twenty years ago) link

I had the best w/e! The only time we left the house for for more alcohol or food! We did nothing but eat, drink, watch tv, play on the playstation2, dance & laugh loads! Much fun was had by all. The football yesterday was interesting, james' team against mine, I didn't cheer for any goals even thought there were 5! Although I think it should have been a draw based on performance, I was pleased that Leeds won, as hopefully it helps their situ. Oh & that my boy wasn't a nitemare for the rest of the day!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 December 2003 12:15 (twenty years ago) link

I am sort of in a strange state at the moment. I actually had a really good weekend, with a party with almost all the people I love most in the world on Saturday night, an easy journey home by night bus at 2, then on Sunday I had a Sky dish installed and now have god knows how many channels. 150+ I believe. Obviously it's almost all rubbish, but I shall be pleased to catch up on American wrestling, and I hope Eurosport are still covering the sumo bashos.

But on the other hand the stress of recent weeks has really got to me, and I recognise some symptoms of the old clinical depression. No suicidal thoughts so far, but the panic and anxiety is there again, and I have spotted myself dodging tasks and responsibilities a bit, avoiding anything a bit demanding - which is very bad at home at the moment as there are things still to be sorted in the new flat, and just as bad at work where I am getting more and more responsibility, and am in for promotion so I don't want to look as if I can't handle it all.

So I feel pulled both ways at present, and I don't know which will prevail. At the moment I am only suffering some side symptoms of depression without actually feeling depressed, which is an odd mix, in my experience.

Is there anything you think you may be able to do Martin? (i.e. see a doctor/counsellor?)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 December 2003 13:49 (twenty years ago) link

Hi. Sarah and I need suggestions for the name of the Petrified Forest album, which is done except for artwork. Nothing TOO twee please.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 15 December 2003 14:07 (twenty years ago) link

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 December 2003 14:13 (twenty years ago) link

"Trees to Stone", bah so your not using my art work!

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Monday, 15 December 2003 14:13 (twenty years ago) link

What about 'so you're not using my artwork?'

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 December 2003 14:14 (twenty years ago) link

Oh Chris we might use your pic, like maybe on the inside or something. I kind of forgot about that. But I don't know what should be on the front, suggestions for that are welcome.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 15 December 2003 14:25 (twenty years ago) link

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Monday, 15 December 2003 14:28 (twenty years ago) link
