I'm in Pittsburgh for a long weekend, first time I've been here for over a decade.

At some point in that decade, Pittsburgh became host to the world's largest furry convention.

The 2017 convention is. . .this weekend.

The hosts of podcast Worst Year Ever, a relatively new podcast which has primarily focused on issues and candidates in the runup to the 2020 elections, took a field trip to Midwest Fur Fest when they heard that Milo Yiannopoulos was planning to attend. shortly after getting vaccinated I visited my stepmom. she's doing alright but is kind of sad that she's estranged from both her kids. one for dumb dramatic reasons, the other because he's a very strange fella. he's about 6 years younger than me so I've always known him as a kid, particularly a kid who was always very socially awkward and had no interests outside of video games. he also had a habit of breaking shit, like everything he touched he'd destroy. I remember the seats in their car and the garage being all torn up. Apparently he just couldn't help it. I think he was diagnosed with ADHD, also is certainly on the spectrum. in other words I have no clue how to connect with him nor do I really want to now that he's moved out. the only thing I knew is that apparently he was a brony, back when his FB shit appeared on my feed. but I haven't seen or heard anything since.

but since I visited I asked "what's your boy up to?" and she says "oh he does this weird thing where he wears animal suits and goes to conventions at hotels" and I'm like "and..?" and she's like "well I think that's it". She has no clue what a furry is and thank god she isn't good enough at being online to figure it out. I say this b/c I look him up on Facebook, and on Facebook you can get to his Twitter (with a little sleuthing), and on his Twitter you can see numerous clips of him getting railed by other furries. the kind of shit I did not know you could post on Twitter. he also has an OnlyFans account now. I scroll down a bit b/c I have to verify this is really him, then do something stupid and click play on one of the videos and yep...that's his voice. that's the kid I used to live with! I'm a pretty liberal guy, ok? but this is fucking weird!!!

anyway flash forward to now, I'm at a family gathering and it's getting late and we're all drinking and the subject of this guy comes up, and my brother is like "oh...yeah...that guy". Keep in mind I really didn't want to tell anybody because I do not want to fucking kill my stepmom. but still I ask "yeah uh...do you know what he's up to now?" - like just inquiring to see if he knows, not to reveal that I know anything. and he says "what, the OnlyFans?" and I'm like "Wait you know about that?!?". it turns out he didn't, that's just how he always answers the "whatever happened to...?" question!!! and now everyone knows!!!! OOPS!! well little stepbro, I hope you're happy now. and I mean that sincerely!
