(Wait, Pye Poudre, who are you again? Still getting used to the new IDs here.)

yah, like i said on the metal thread, new album way too boring for me. it's indie-rock! there is something to be said for sparing us the indie-rock vocals i suppose. i had never heard them before though. i'm guessing their earlier stuff was more "epic".

seven months pass...

So I am being dragged (not unwillingly) along to see these guys live on Friday night. Am I likely to get into this? Esp with the above posts now expressing disdain at their recent work! (which really, whats wrong with it sounding like indie/postrock?)

I saw them about a year ago (might have been Dec 05 now I think about it) and enjoyed them an awful lot. Despite this, I've never got round to listening to 'City Of Echoes', which is where most of the criticism ^^^ is aimed so maybe that says more.

They were also VVVVLOUD when I saw them, probably the loudest band I've seen in that venue (and that includes Sunn0))) ). The bass drum was like being kicked in the chest.

I'm pissed off at Hydrahead, they delayed posting the vinyls that we all pre-ordered saying there was delays, yet they still managed to get them to distros and shops? cunts. I guess they had our money so they were in no rush to send it as they wanted distro/shops money.

Looks like these guys have a new label, not too surprised:

Pelican sign to Southern Lord

It is with immense reverence that Southern Lord Recordings announces the signing of Chicago heavy-rock instrumental icons Pelican. Their genre-defying sound and eagerness to explore new musical directions will fit right at home alongside similar bands on the label like Earth, Boris and sunn 0))). Pelican is currently at Red Room studios in Seattle, WA recording an EP that will be their first release on Southern Lord. The new material promises to be heavier, darker and very “riff-oriented” comments guitarist Trevor De Brauw. A very special guest guitarist who has been heavily influential to the band will be making a guest appearance more details to be revealed shortly!

In March Pelican will be touring alongside new label mates Wolves In The Throne Room, including a triumphant return to the South By South West music fest in Austin, TX at the Southern Lord showcase. Upon returning home Pelican will focus their sights on their 4th full-length album.
