Although, curiously, it's a young Hans Zimmer who cameos as a third Buggle at the end of the VKTRS video (he's the slightly uncomfortable-looking guy standing in front of their huge modular synthesizer).

Hahahahahaha! One of my former roommates is originally from Moscow... popular music over there is curious to say the least. (He once told me that he liked Metallica because their lyrics were "thoughtful.")

Does anyone here remember the huge MTV special with them in 1983 or so where Wetton left dramatically, like, a week before the thing was supposed to go on (in Japan, I think), and he was replaced by...Greg Lake?!?!! Looking really fat!!! Really, putting the "ass" in classic rock, these guys...

Dave could set up an Amazon want list containing all the albums and people could purchase the album (or albums) of their choice and have it shipped to him automatically.

reunion of original lineup means more of these live albums on the way(probably already a few on the market by now)
― gershy, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 03:42 (sixteen years ago) link
If you consider that each of those albums feels like it's seven hours long, that's one week of non-stop torment. I'd do it for $150 though.

re discussion above i always thought heat of the moment was pretty much just a straight rewrite of video killed etc. you can sing either verse and chorus over the other one.
and now we meet in an abandoned studio and now you find yourself in '82
― tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 06:39 (sixteen years ago) link
but funny how at the time, or to me anyway, "video killed" was New Wave and cool, but "heat of the moment" was embarrassing shit that only the choirboy synth player in my hs rock band was into.

The new Yes cover is a billion times better than Omega, but its still pretty awful.

The first two were not at all bad, but generally, all those live albums would be rather uninteresting, and in fact, most of the stuff they did after the original lineup fell apart.

I think Asia, in a way, might not have been served well by their name and by the Roger Dean covers. Both of those things are actually quite charming, but it creates an impression that maybe differs from the reality of Wetton/Downes as songwriters. Their songs strike me as being very kind of human. Down to earth.
The songs from Astra on this list sound really nice. Geoff Downes is seemingly always delightful to hear.
― timellison, Thursday, 24 July 2014 06:08 (nine years ago) link
That's not to say that branding themselves as something more human and down to earth would have worked better. There IS something "Asia" and Roger Dean about their music.
