Detroit punk bands still around in '77 were mostly holdovers (but awesome nonetheless): Sonic's Rendevous Band, The Dogs, Destroy All Monsters.

I remember interviewing Johnny Ramone in 1980 and he said he reckoned bands like Blondie and Ramones would still have been playing backstreet bars in NYC if it hadn't been for the 'Pistols, Clash, Damned etc. re-exporting Punk to the US.
