It's like I've walked into the Greasy Robot episode of Iron Chef.

so the barcode has been done to death has it? at least it was a good idea when i though of it a long time ago.

i am more into black magic markers anyways.

kephm, Thursday, 4 March 2004 21:05 (twenty years ago) link

I think the bar code is a fantastic idea - especially since it means something important.

Parade-rainer-on-ers.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 4 March 2004 21:13 (twenty years ago) link

I think I'll get a brass-knuckled fist framed by broken pencils and graffitti.

Viva La Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 4 March 2004 21:15 (twenty years ago) link

It's not necessarily as important as it could be, though, which is why I'm not sure and why I keep putting it off. Partly I want to ring myself up at the cash register, after all, which I don't think I can do with this bar code, since it's not being sold many offline places.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 4 March 2004 21:33 (twenty years ago) link

yeah, my idea was just a random barcode, a bag of frozen peas or something. this was like 1989.

kephm, Thursday, 4 March 2004 21:40 (twenty years ago) link

Parade-rainer-on-ers!

I definitely need to get more work done on my shoulder. I've got the money for it, now all I need is to wait for my bro to get me the appointment with his superstar tattoo dude. That should take another year. Bastard f0cker.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:24 (twenty years ago) link

I hope it was my Amy Carter picture that inspired you, Jeanne!

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:27 (twenty years ago) link

Totally. See all the planning and strategy in that girl's face? That's me on the money.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 4 March 2004 22:32 (twenty years ago) link

My wife (a youthful animal activist in the late 1970's) wrote a letter to Amy C. to ask her to stop selling tuna sandwiches to reporters, because the tuna wasn't dolphin-safe. Amy promptly complied, and replied with a nice note. OH YEAH BABY!

actually, were I to get a tattoo, it would be OH YEAH BABY! not telling where, though.

I used to know Amy Carter's pot dealer; the fact that she had one (w/Secret Service agents follwing her to the drug den) is deeply unsurprising.

Talk about powers of persuasion. Now I wanna get a kitty tat. You girls have some remarkable taste, I must say. Rose: get the one with the raised paw. Mon Dieu, it's obscenely k-cute.

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Saturday, 6 March 2004 07:03 (twenty years ago) link

three months pass...
A few months ago, I saw a show by this artist who had all these old posters, of like cowboys and johnny cash and stuff, and there was one that was just this bird...as i recall, it was sort of a detailed line drawing, black and white, of a cuckoo, maybe? upside-down, like it was diving. anyway, i think it would look good on my arm and now i have birthday money and want to get it done.
i have been doing google searches for so long trying to find something that looks like it, because i am fairly certain i have seen images of that bird before. i have clicked through page after page of images. pictures of pet birds. pictures of dead birds. pictures of slovakian models.
i guess this is really more of a google question than a tattoo question, isn't it? kind of, maybe. but what should i do? i've always wondered where people find their tattoo designs. i know a couple of people i could probably get to draw something like this bird for me, but i don't even really know how i'd describe it to them because i always skipped my art history lectures and therefore i have no idea what style it's in or anything. someone told me it looked vaguely german expressionist, so i did more searches and couldn't find anything. and also, the bird's inclusion among cowboys and johnny cash stuff doesn't really scream "GERMAN EXPRESSIONISM" to me. but maybe, i don't know. maybe it was some kind of secret inside artist joke.
so here is what i want to know: do you happen to possess the world's largest collection of antique bird posters? do you know someone who does? or should i just draw my own damn bird? should i even get a tattoo of a bird? it's gonna be pretty big.

Is there any way to get in contact with the gallery/artist?

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 18:06 (nineteen years ago) link

hm, that could be a possibility. a guy i know had some work up at that gallery the same night, and he might be able to get me that information. see, these are the kind of things i don't think of. this is why i come here. thank you.

kirsten (kirsten), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 18:26 (nineteen years ago) link

Just as a reminder of what you're getting yourself into, Kirsten, when my sister was younger she got a tattoo of a moon and sun kissing on her knee. Now she wishes she could chop that knee off.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 18:31 (nineteen years ago) link

Ew, a moon and sun kissing! Well, I figure I've wanted it for a long enough time and i want it enough that wanting it and not having it is no better than having it and not wanting it. and also, if you really, really want to, there's always something you can do to cover up a tattoo, right?

kirsten (kirsten), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 18:34 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah I guess the moral of the story is don't get a tattoo of a sun and a moon kissing.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 18:36 (nineteen years ago) link

absolutely booming tattoo La Lechera

I don't know which my next one is! I'm running out of space on my left arm but there's some spots where I have ideas...I have enough now that it's not a giant deal to get one, like I'll get something on a lark, but the ideas I have for the spots to fill in never quite solidify. A coelacanth is one that's a strong contender (my left arm at present has a vulture, a crab, a snake, and two non-animal heavy-metal-related pieces)...but also, pandas are greatly loved by my younger son, so I think about getting a panda, but then I fret that vulture / crab / snake / panda leaves panda kind of the odd animal out

she carries a torch. two torches, actually (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Friday, 16 August 2019 00:43 (four years ago) link

Thanks! It barely hurts now that I took 2 ibuprofens. I saw an actual coelacanth irl (preserved in a tub in the Field Museum) and I endorse this idea!

Wow, supercool design!

My gf just got her first tattoo (a really sweet bonding thing with her three best friends) & was asking me if i'd ever get one, after thought the only thing I could imagine paying tribute to permanently like that is my beloved cat. it may be in the cards.

Love it, who designed it LL?

change display name (Jordan), Friday, 16 August 2019 00:56 (four years ago) link

The person whose Instagram that is — her name is Julia Campi0n3

Also I gotta say that the way she said “we’ll take this at your pace because this is your first time” showed me that this was going to be a good experience She checked in w me a number of times before it became clear that as long as I was talking about music, my dog, or my job I was sufficiently distracted from caring about the physical sensation. Would recommend her without hesitation!!

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 16 August 2019 01:08 (four years ago) link

Without knowing me at all she had set up the Spotify station around a Can song!!! It was fun talking about Mother Sky while being needled.

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 16 August 2019 01:09 (four years ago) link

That's a lovely tribute, LL. I also got my first ink this year. Inner upper arm; the parts closest to the inner elbow and armpit were FUCKING JESUS CHRIST THAT HURTS but I am nevertheless planning to fill in a half sleeve with two more pieces.

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 16 August 2019 12:31 (four years ago) link

That is such a great tattoo it's making me rethink about getting one

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 16 August 2019 12:41 (four years ago) link

I recommend following artists whose work you like on Instagram! I followed mine after erstwhile ilxor Carl Agatha got a tattoo by her and since have enjoyed both her images and captions. Knowing who she (the artist) is (as a person) a little better helped me decide that this was the right thing to do and helped me feel safe and confident about the decision.

I feel different! Also the magic of having my dog with me forever seems effective. I feel like her spirit hasn’t disappeared.
