DEAR DAVID O. SELZNICK, WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THAI AND VIETNAMESE RESTAURANTS IN N00 YORK & ALSO WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE CAMBODIAN PLACE NEAR BAM?

kanye twitty (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:36 (eighteen years ago) link

not sance delzer but i like da cambodian place. depends on what you get tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:37 (eighteen years ago) link

I DON'T THINK I'VE EVER HAD CAMBODIAN FOOD.
WHAT IS TEH GIST?

uh, it's asian.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:43 (eighteen years ago) link

senseiDancer (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:46 (eighteen years ago) link

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:48 (eighteen years ago) link

it's pretty similar to vietnamese food! vermicelli soups, etc.

kanye twitty (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:49 (eighteen years ago) link

meat heavy?

senseiDancer (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:51 (eighteen years ago) link

meat and fish, yeah.

kanye twitty (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:55 (eighteen years ago) link

The Gist is Stuart Moxham's post-Young Marble Giants band, you should know that, you burned me the CD.

HA HA.

Cambodian is like a cross between thai and vietnamese. I used to kinda like it, I like how they have 1,000,000 things on the menu, and how they have a note saying "if you're in a rush to see a movie, can we suggest the following 3 entrees?" Why? Because they're so damn slow. Seriously the worst service ever. Dare to sit in the porched in area...

Really good thai, well I've only been to Sri Pa Pa or whatever once, the super place in queens that everyone talks about, that was pretty amazing. I used to love the park slope place near 2nd st on the 2nd floor. I like Tuk Tuk in my hood. Really good basil fried rice, hot-pot dumplings (peanuts and radish) are super.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 21:05 (eighteen years ago) link

I've never been to New Green Bo. I've been to very little in chinatown.

And I've never had a vietnamese sandwhich, though a new place just opened up at smith and bergen near me. I'm excited to try.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 21:27 (eighteen years ago) link

don't know Green Bo, but there is an excellent dumpling house called the Excellent Dumpling House

midi sanskrit (sanskrit), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 21:28 (eighteen years ago) link

I used to eat this bbq pork sandwhich on french bread every week at the pho place where I used to live in dallas. one of the all time great sandwiches of my life

Dominique (dleone), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 21:29 (eighteen years ago) link

theres a great pho place on the bowery called pho tu do. soups featuring massive bulk of things you cannot identify and dont care.

delightfully cheap

kanye twitty (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 21:49 (eighteen years ago) link

banh mi place on broome and elizabeth is great.

new green bo is okay, but their steamed juicy buns are a bit heavy on the sesame oil for my taste. try the fried pork, though, they are my faves.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 22:01 (eighteen years ago) link

IJ,

We had the Shanghai Crab and the pork dumplings (as well as the scallion pancakes). Not bad. There's a place in SF that makes the best Shanghai dumplings but the price is seriously out of control.

Where is best fish & chips in my part of brooklyn (roughly)?

Is there really anywhere besides the Chip Shop on 5th or those funky fried chicken places?

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 22:14 (eighteen years ago) link

what does bumming mean in the UK? Is it something to do with my fanny pack? Do I have to take the lift to the lou? What colour is it anyway?

I'm not a big fish eater either. Does that mean something funny in england? I think there's a new fish place on 5th ave though.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 22:17 (eighteen years ago) link

Dan,

Do you think that Tomoe is overrated? What about the bathrooms at Bar 89? What about Ham Gee OK on 32nd?

"The Lou" is Louisville, KY.

I think you mean the loo.

Jon Lewis, Thursday, 1 November 2007 21:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I've eaten smith st. zaytoons so much that one of the guys who used to work there bought me a drink at Boat once. That was weird. Anyway, it never made me sick, though when I got the chicken kebab platter for delivery it was sometimes undercooked. That's pretty gross. Their lentil soup is AWESOME, so thick you can eat it with a fork.

The Cup sucks, but Cafe Bar has some ok stuff.

dan selzer, Thursday, 1 November 2007 21:29 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah we went two weekends ago for schwarma brunch. really good. i've forgiven them for my smith st food poisoning of years ago. this place is much better than olive vine.

this place is much better than olive vine.

^^^ OTM x1000

ian, Thursday, 1 November 2007 21:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Yes. The Olive Vine on 6th ave or whereve is the WORST. The place on Dekalb is pretty good for some things, as is Beduin Tent on Atlantic, who make this insane Merguez.

although we did go to Chicha in Bushwick and C.lo Cafe in east williamsburg last week and despite the former's beautiful design and more innovative/interesting menu, found C.lo Cafe shockingly delicious for what seems like a pretty humble under the radar place. Don't sleep.

Now can we talk about Queens please?

I just re-read this entire thread. I am sad my only contribution was to bitch about accidentally getting mashed potatos on my pizza. A higher end sushi joint opened up kind of near my place.
