JESUS CHRIST NOT THIS AGAIN !

look - mm circa 92 - 96 : heyday of last music press
with any true balls, bile, soul, wit etc.
what's astonishing when u re-read it, is how nme
today sounds like the observer by comparison.

mm broke suede, they made the manics, they discovered
oasis, they gave first front covers to all 3. likewise
radiohead and countless more. they always sold fewer than
nme so they could risk take at their leisure. nme was a good
6 months behind constantly, as anyone who read either will tell
you. nme was at it's peak in the baker/burchill era about
12-15 years before.

and i didn't mention romo once !

Hey I only asked a question. No reason to react like this.

Someone I once worked with used to get NME and I'd swap MM with him. His copy of NME used to stink. This has made an everlasting impression and I still can't bring myself to buy it.

Besides, MM was always streets ahead with it's coverage of underground music.

Romo: late period MM joke music scene.

but yes, as we all know the MM kicked arse in the early '90s.

His contempt for George Harrison and all his works in that book was bracing. RIP Roy.

Trying to remember his line about "Yesterday," I think it was "Schmaltz rears its ugly head again with this one" or something like that
