Oh, and and anyway, how can you play such music as a soundtrack to a fucking party!

Well, civilized parties :-) The sort of parties I've started attending no I'm in my 30s, and almost married, and are attended by university lecturers and people with grown up kids. I don't mean drunken orgies!

The sort of parties where people also play Buena Vista or cool jazz.

Not to gross anyone out, but Zero Hour makes an excellent soundtrack for a two-person horizontal party, ifyouknowwha'msayin'?

''I don't mean drunken orgies!''

Nor did I? I'll rephrase what i said : to a 'bloody' party. How abt that!

I mean how can you hear it above ppl's chatter.

It's no use avoiding it for five years. I mean, there could a really popular romantic comedy (starring tom hanks and meg ryan of course!) with Piazzola (two z's are you happy now Lee) in that time and then it might get really huge like Buena Vista so I'll keep going now, thanks.

Anyway, who cares if the yuppies are buying it, you know?

Tango: zero hour is really good but what abt live stuff. Actual titles (though tahnks, you've been helpful).

I meant piazzola in the soundtrack of course!

Actually, Wong Kar-Wai's amazing film Happy Together (which was largely shot in Buenos Aires) uses tons of Piazzolla on the soundtrack. I don't think it did much for his sales, though.

Lee- I saw that movie but it was a foreign movie. I thought it was really good movie and the soundtrack added to it. Has a CD ever been released (I doubt i could find it even if ti did).

Julio - There probably was a Happy Together soundtrack, but I don't think it would have been issued in North America. I've never seen it, but then again I've hardly ever looked. Still it would be pretty interesting to have around, as the score is pretty much half Piazzolla and half Zappa, plus Caetano Veloso's ravishing version of "Cucurrucucu Paloma." But, if I recall, most if not all of the Piazzolla stuff from the movie is from Zero Hour anyway.

three years pass...
Such an early death for a thread...
I can't think of anything more beautiful than Libertango right now.

I can overdose on him a bit easily, but when I'm in the mood, he is just impossibly good.

my favorite is Rough Dancer and the Cyclical Night though all three of those American Clavés are great. The mid to late 70's stretch are all key: Libertango, Lumiere, Persecuta & Biyuya. (1st and 3rd probably my preferentials but I should check the other two because I am years older now since the last listens)

Is that a real one or an ILM one?

I am years older since my last listens to 'la camorra', too.

The only bit of piazolla action that I've gotten since those classic nu- ilx days has been a documentary on BBC four about his life w/ full interviews with sidemen, family and a ton of footage (gotta have that!) and another viewing of "happy together". Listening to the music on that is as good a reason as any to catch that film again.

fifteen years pass...

saw Happy Together again the other night (devastating!) so Tango Apasionado has now been running through my head for two days. so beautiful.
