Nice to see that their rarities comp is import only (& available @ Amazon for the princely sum of $38).

I might go w/ Strangers, as it was my first. Tho I think Mother of All Saints was the one I played the most (& I haven't listed to any TFUL in maybe 5ish years).

Admonishing the Bishops is so, so good, I find it hard not to vote for it. However, I'm in an epic mood today and the monument that is Mother of All Saints is my pick.

Listening to some of these this morning -- the 1995 one especially is inspired!

Voted for Strangers as its the one I reach for most frequently and has a good balance of different Fellers material on there.

The first half-dozen songs on "Mother of All Saints" are as good as any they've done, but I don't think I've made it all the way through the album more than a handful of times. "Lovelyville" is much more consistent.

I love Strangers cause it starts off great (My Pal the Tortoise, Socket) and ends even better (Cup of Dreams, Operation, Piston and the Shaft, Noble Experiment)

I never liked Father or Million Dollars on Admonishing the Bishops that much, but Hurricane is probably the most beautiful song they ever did.

My top three would be:
1. Lovelyville
2. Strangers from the Universe
3. Wormed by Leonard

Saw them more times then any other band during the 90s. Always thought the records were a bit spotty though, all of them with some amazing songs and some less so. Strangers of the Universe may be considered their indie-rock sellout album or something by some, but it may be their most consistently awesome.

Most of my fave songs are on Wormed by Leonard, but there's to many tracks that I routinely skip on there.

The Fistful of Dollars EP is great, FWIW.

Favorite song is "Waited Too Long" from Funeral Pudding EP.

There were way too little Anne songs IMHO. "Waited Too Long" is a great junkyard breakbeat song with occasional blasts of fuzz bass. Anne's acerbic singing of "BECAAAAAAAAAAAAAZ it's toooOOOOO LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy-t!" is classic.

I Hope It Lands has a wealth of Anne songs, and they are mostly quite lovely.

I still have a tape of a radio show I did freshman year in college where I played Waited Too Long mixed out of something, maybe some His Name Is Alive track from King of Sweet. Those were the days. I used to buy all that Amarillo stuff, Heavenly Ten Stems, the Mr. Hageman LP, US Saucer...

can I tell you my favorite concert story of all time? During college I went to the Grog Shop in cleveland to see TFUL and they were great, they played a long version of the theme to Rosemary's Baby. I didn't have a ton of their albums though. After the show was done I turned to my friend and said "that was great, I just wished they played like 1 more song that I know really well, like Narlus Spectre" and the very second I finished saying that...they played Narlus Spectre as an encore.

I think there may have been a few Sun City Girls on Amarillo, though I used to get it mixed up with Abduction, they may have been the same at some point? Also The Three Doctors, Zip Code Rapists, Zip Code Review, the prank phone calls album that's now been issued credited to Neil Hamburger...

turkington reissued (rather than released) "midnight cowboys from ipanema", i think that was the only SCG release on amarillo.

Thank you so much for that. I wondered what happened to all those shoeboxes full of DATs and Hugh Swarts' twice-used Skoal Bandits. Just awesome -- the greatness just keeps breaching the levee on that St. Louis show.

yeah, that St. Louis show is the bomb. The sound is so much better than yer average bootleg recording.

I voted Strangers from the Universe, but Admonishing the Bishops is also perfect. I saw them give one of the great performances of the late-20th century at Lounge Ax in Chicago. I belive it was in 1993- the Cocktails opened.

I voted for Strangers based on my fondness for My Pal The Tortoise but in retrospect Mother of All Saints should win. Hornet's Heart and Tell Me are both amazing. This thread has reminded me how great TFUL 282 are. Are they still around?

Runner-up: Strangers, on the strength of the unbelievable "Socket."

Funeral Pudding for me, because of "Heavy Head," which is gorgeous.

'91 Dodge Van is my very favorite of all their songs by quite a margin. other amazing Bob Dinners songs include the crazed yammering of "The Barker" with its drop dead chorus, the glorious slow distortion of "Holy Ghost", the schizo Sparkle Like A Battery song or whatever the hell it's called, and that killer opening track.

They aren't exactly 'still around", but they play a show or two every 3 or 4 years.

I Hope It Lands really got shafted. (Granted, it was a bit imbalanced with too much of the practice material me thinks, but still, damn.)

Punks with Lunch are a rad group btw -- several of my friends are members (xp with the Antifa Meeting Thread) -- besides narcan, they also organize mutual aid efforts and free meals to homeless encampments and other vulnerable populations in Oakland and the greater SF Bay Area.
