1) try to imagine a culture where you drink strawberry soda mixed with cough syrup and listen to screwtapes every goddamn weekend of your life. this is what i think this article leaves out 2) in his later years DJ Screw became totally legit and did fully-endorsed remixes for platinum rappers 3) despite this he died because he drank too much Robitussin.

i made a piece of video in college, back in 90, with a soundtrack using kraftwerk's computer world played at 16rpm on dom's ancient gramophone. it was meant to take the piss, but sounds fantastic, you should try it if you can.

Screwed-up shit is fuckin' great, but codeine cough syrup is really expensive.

One DJ at our college dance parties was fond of playing "Tainted Love" 45 at 33 rpm. People danced alright.

Music to soundtrack cough syrup consumption: you think Lester Bangs would've been excited? (cf. his "I Saw God And/Or Tangerine Dream.")

Y,know, if you play Joy Division LPs at 45 it sounds like Eartha Kitt goes punk.

And Hole 45s at 33 1/3 make Courtney sound like Eddie Vedder. Whee!

That'd be closer to the coil version, wouldn't it? er maybe if you played the 45 at say 16 rpm..

As for the Eartha Kitt/Joy Division thing - regardless of whether you meant that to be a joke, Martin, that sounds awesome. I'm about to put Closer on at 45...report coming soon.
