Alright, what the hell, what's your favorite FENNESZ album?

It is very good, but then the poll might lose focus, because then you might include the Fenn'o'berg records, which are wonderful, the Ambarchi/Fennesz/Pimmon/Rehberg stuff, Wrapped Islands with Polwechsel, the Dafeldecker/Fennesz/Kurzmann stuff, etc etc.

no plays, no credibility

strongohulkington, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 18:55 (sixteen years ago) link

came here to vote for plays

and what, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 18:56 (sixteen years ago) link

That's included in Field Recordings though

Jena, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 18:56 (sixteen years ago) link

nuh uh

strongohulkington, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 19:00 (sixteen years ago) link

oops, you guys are right, 'plays' is not on field recordings. i was thinking 'instrument'.

Jena, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 19:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Plays is a single. The Sakamoto stuff is collabs. We're dealing with real albums here, gentlemen

baaderonixx, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 20:12 (sixteen years ago) link

The Sakamoto collab is great!! I'll go with Endless Summer.

I think the live album perfectly distills what I like about the last two albums. Hotel is pretty amazing as a groundbreaker, but I don't find myself coming back to it as much now, what, 8 years later?

That was easy, then.

baaderonixx, Monday, 21 May 2007 08:56 (sixteen years ago) link

I pipped for Venice.

Scik Mouthy, Monday, 21 May 2007 09:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Hotel Paral.lel still is one of the most amazing records I've ever heard, so I'll vote for that.

I thought 'Live in Japan' would place higher.

baaderonixx, Monday, 21 May 2007 09:10 (sixteen years ago) link

i clicked. or did i forget?

Jena, Monday, 21 May 2007 15:21 (sixteen years ago) link

It was always going to be a two-box game.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 21 May 2007 15:22 (sixteen years ago) link

RE-COUNT!

baaderonixx, Monday, 21 May 2007 15:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Endless Summer probably has the lowest enjoyment gained vs. number of listens ratio out of any album I've ever heard. I tried and tried but it never really clicked.

ledge, Monday, 21 May 2007 15:25 (sixteen years ago) link

Try 'Venice' then.

baaderonixx, Monday, 21 May 2007 15:31 (sixteen years ago) link

I have that. And the Sakamoto thing. I live in hope!

ledge, Monday, 21 May 2007 15:33 (sixteen years ago) link

It took me a while to get into ES too. It's only after loving Venice that I went back to that album.

two weeks pass...

I'm going to see him with Mike Patton tonight and I'm a bit scared by MP's part of teh equation. Has anyone seen them on this tour?

baaderonixx, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 09:22 (sixteen years ago) link

God, that was boring. Left halfway through...

baaderonixx, Thursday, 7 June 2007 12:33 (sixteen years ago) link

i'd imagine that Fennesz would be a bit boring live. just like sitting through an hour's worth of first-year computer music compositions is boring-- all these kids trying to ape Fennesz and failing miserably.

i'd go with Endless Summer, but if collabs were included, Wrapped Islands would be my favorite. that album continues to comfort/astound me.

two years pass...

Fennesz remix of Junior Boys "Last Exit" still slaying my ass after all these years. Nothing quite says summer like this song for me.

ten years pass...

I just came here to say that the new record is really beautiful and worth a listen, definitely his best effort in years, perfect for winter.

why thank you, i didn't even know a new one was out!

I mean, it's new-ish. Came out in late spring, I believe. But it's lovely, especially on a set of good speakers at a mid volume

one year passes...

We don't seem to have a general Fennesz thread but I'll use this one. A little news:

two years pass...

there's something about agora that feels very comforting to me now. i've played it a million times.

i see he has a new collaboration with a duo called ozmotic, senzatempo. sounding very cinematic so far. https://fenneszreleases.bandcamp.com/album/senzatempo
