Should I own anything by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown?

I actually feel that that first Crazy World of Arthur Brown album is kind of mediocre and corny. That said, it has its moments ("Spontaneous Apple Creation" for one) and you can get it for three dollars, probably, so go for it!

(Stormy, if Trilogy is not essential, which ELP albums are? I'd vote it third or fourth after Tarkus, the first album, and possibly Brain Salad Surgery.)

Pictures at an Exhibition is somewhat essential as well.

oh, I was only just riffin' on the Carl Palmer connection. being silly. Um, honestly the only ELP full-lengths I've heard all the way through are Trilogy (which I do like a bunch) and Pictures at an Exhibition. I've never heard the whole Brain Salad Surgery lp, believe it or not! I really should grab that thing out of the dollar bin one of these days.

Given that he only lives about five miles away and still performs round these parts, I should know more than zilch about this venerable geezer than I do, but nope, I'm afraid not. Peversely, I do know Rustic Hinge though and that one Reckless album is good! Not so much the scrumpy-fuelled-ciderdelic-farmhands-on-the-rampage type affair I was expecting from it's Dorset origins, more of a Magic Band-running-amok-on-the-croquet-lawn deal. Great stuff.

fourteen years pass...

"The Journey" is a really ace find, very unique now let alone when it was recorded in the early 70s. I'm kind of surprised it hasn't caught on with the krautrock fans as a UK example of late psychedelia meets early electronic music.

you know, whatever the hell this thread was about, i was going to post on it to say that kingdom come's "journey" is fucking awesome

also, for those of you into shitty audience bootlegs, "time captives: manchester free trade hall, 1973-04-24" is a good one

There are some pretty strong deep cuts on the s/t Crazy World lp. I have always loved Child of My Kingdom, Come & See Come & Buy and Rest Cure.

& i would definitely recommend Kingdom Come's Galactic Zoo Dossier which is great late psychedelia/space rock from 1971

i have a track of arthur brown doing a song called "the fire-ant said to the cockroach" that came with the genre tag "Bloody Weird", fair enough I figure

also kingdom come's "journey" was tagged ""Progressive Rock"", with the scare quotes, again not an opinion i felt compelled to revise

I tend to think there's something of merit in every Arthur Brown release I've ever heard, but of them all Journey is my favorite, followed by Galactic Zoo Dossier.
