Right - not updating properly, again, due to this whole 'being in another city' thing - I'll sort aaaall the spreadsheets on Monday night/Tuesday morning...

But THUS FAR:

Beautiful South #30
DJ Bobo #36 (not on the card)
Aqualung #37
The Stands #39 (not on the card)
Electric Six #40

#27 - Delta Goodrem

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 19 October 2003 15:12 (twenty years ago) link

There are ten new entries to come, and as most people spotted, Keane won't be among them.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 19 October 2003 15:16 (twenty years ago) link

Electric Six #40- ouch.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 19 October 2003 15:23 (twenty years ago) link

Further update -

David Guetta #19
Chingy #17
Craig David #15
Erasure #13 (not on the card)
R.E.M. #8

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 19 October 2003 16:15 (twenty years ago) link

Robin's spot on with Emma Bunton @ 6.
Dear me, a shame that Sophie Ellis-Bextor was only at 7...

Tom May (Tom May), Sunday, 19 October 2003 16:26 (twenty years ago) link

well ... I get 10 for Sugababes and Emma Bunton, and 1 for 50 Cent. yep, Sophie deserved to go higher, although this song doesn't have the sheer excitement and texture of "Murder on the Dancefloor" (mind you, what does?). those of us who predicted Elton John for #27 were, frustratingly, just one position out. Kevin Lyttle is a very pleasant surprise indeed.

robin carmody (robin carmody), Sunday, 19 October 2003 16:52 (twenty years ago) link

especially because Wes didn't even mention Kevin Lyttle at the end of the Top 40 last Sunday, but he's triumphantly outsold five out of the six singles the Wanker *did* acknowledge. I want the same thing to happen this week with Fatman Scoop (who Wes likewise didn't mention, even though like Kevin he's got to #3 on the Smash Hits Chart pre-release) partially because "Be Faithful" is great and I've been hearing it on Westwood for what feels like years and I love seeing such things cross over, but also because it'd rub the Wanker's stupid arsing face in it.

also, isn't Outlandish's "Aicha" coming out tomorrow? the only reason that hasn't already been a hit here is the nasty stereotypical mentality in Britain which states that only dance records and novelty hits can come from the rest of Europe, and European hip-hop and R&B doesn't exist ... great to hear that British Asian DJ whose name escapes me bigging up Outlandish when he appeared on Westwood's show last night.

robin carmody (robin carmody), Sunday, 19 October 2003 17:06 (twenty years ago) link

Bextor #7
Bunton #6
Fiddy #5
Big Kev #2
Sugababes #1

Keane either weren't out or completely missed the top 75.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 19 October 2003 17:08 (twenty years ago) link

That's probably one of the better top tens for a long time.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 19 October 2003 17:39 (twenty years ago) link

Also - wasn't it nice of Radio 1 to put the 'ad-hoc' phone calls by the Sugababes all over the chart thus ruining the suspense of the first half-decent race for number one in months?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 19 October 2003 17:53 (twenty years ago) link

I missed those, for the most part. I did however notice the completely unnecessary playing of "Crazy In Love" AGAIN - ostensibly because Dangerously In Love has gone back into the Top 20 album chart, in reality to contrive a means of playing big radio hits after they've stopped selling and therefore make it even more akin to Hit40UK. That was basically the whole idea of introducing the album section as far as I could tell - playing forthcoming singles and previous hits, along with the competitions, Blue live! in! the! studio!, Rachel Stevens saying she always listens to the official chart even though she actually stood in for Dr Fox recently ... basically getting as close to the non-sales-based charts as you can within a sales-based format.
