Well it's a great title.

Good song too, have you heard it?

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Saturday, 30 November 2002 07:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

Probably but I don't remember which one it is. I've heard like all of them at one point or another but none of them stuck.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 30 November 2002 07:45 (twenty-one years ago) link

It's that one that sounds like Glen Danzig fronting the MC5.

gluecifer are some of the rudest cunts I've met in my life )or was that the support band? can't remember anyway. there was a stench of horrible in the rooom at the gig I worked at. so the hellacopters win (till the 12th at least. then I'll get the dirt on whether they're cocks too.
turbo negro may be norwegian but they rock more than either.

The Hellacopters have written quite a few rock anthems but I'd count lots of Gluecifer songs as personal anthems ("Suck City", "Rockthrone", "Evil Matcher", "Chewin Fingers"...) so I guess Gluecifer wins. Both have done all sorts of terrible stuff too, but Gluecifer's bad stuff is at least funny. Who told Nick Royale he could sing?

Kris (aqueduct), Sunday, 1 December 2002 06:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hellacopters, because Gluecifer are from Norway.

D'OH! Once again, Helltime Producto proves that no one else is capable of beating him at the stupid competition.

four years pass...
So how about now, assuming anyone cares for either any more? (I'll vote for the Hellacopters but I like both -- currently listening to the Cream of the Crap, Vol. 2 comp with all sorts of singles and B-sides and covers and etc.)

hellacopters were so fierce live early on, like supershitty 2 the max era and stuff like that.

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 10 May 2007 19:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Hellacopters were great live when I saw them last year. I like both bands. I have more Hellacopters records (three versus two), but after getting those three I realized that I probably don't need any more. Still, if it came down to Automatic Thrill against By the Grace of God, I don't think I could choose. I love both of those albums so very much.

Jeff Treppel, Thursday, 10 May 2007 19:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Good to hear they can still do it live -- the one time I saw them was back in 1999 and it was amazing. Hair everywhere.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 10 May 2007 19:51 (sixteen years ago) link

And where's the love for Backyard Babies? Total 13 completes the trilogy of Sweden rock awesomeness.

Jeff Treppel, Thursday, 10 May 2007 19:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh I'm a Backyard Babies fan too -- proof.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 10 May 2007 19:53 (sixteen years ago) link

(Trinity, not trilogy.)

Yeah, there was a lot of energy. Would have been better if there weren't two tall bastards wearing jaunty hats standing in front of me (and I'm pretty tall, so it takes a really tall guy to block me). I freaking hate people who wear hats to shows.

Jeff Treppel, Thursday, 10 May 2007 19:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Crazy, I forgot I had actually reviewed Total 13 itself! But I did.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 10 May 2007 19:55 (sixteen years ago) link

i have a great 10 inch by them - disappointment blues or something like that? it has a cover of "city slang" on it

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 10 May 2007 19:57 (sixteen years ago) link

What did you think of Rock 'n Roll Is Dead, Ned? I couldn't get into it at first, but it definitely grew on me. Not as good as By the Grace of God (those keyboards really filled out their sound), but fun nonetheless.

Jeff Treppel, Thursday, 10 May 2007 20:07 (sixteen years ago) link

I've been slack with the more recent records! Need to catch up on them as I can here, but your comment about how all you need are a couple means I haven't looked much beyond the older ones I have already, honestly. Still, I figure I'll get Rock 'n Roll is Dead at some point.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 10 May 2007 20:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Do you not have By the Grace of God?! You have to get that one, right now! It's their most 80s arena rock record, which works really well for them. "It's Good but It Just Ain't Right" is so good I can't even figure out how to describe it. Positively epic.

Jeff Treppel, Thursday, 10 May 2007 23:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Actually, I do know how to describe "It's Good but It Just Ain't Right:" it's good, but it just ain't right.

Jeff Treppel, Thursday, 10 May 2007 23:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Gluecifer was pretty dissapointing. I had a hard time getting through the two CDs I heard and their songs never stuck with me at all. They have a bunch of energy and I bet they would be fun to get drunk in a club and see, but their records did not catch with me.

The Hellacopters on the other hand have some great songs and their later stuff is really good 70s style hard rock. I never did pickup Rock and Roll is Dead, but I think High Visibility and By the Grace of God are even better than the early more raw records. Their albums are not perfect, but there are a couple of great songs on each of their albums.

The Hellacopters is one newer band that I have been able to get some older guys whose rock tastes are 70s to the bone to really like.

earlnash, Friday, 11 May 2007 02:34 (sixteen years ago) link

That would be The Hellacopters, considering Gluecifer are Norwegians and, as such, have to be disqualified.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 11 May 2007 08:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Why must you always ruin our fun, Geir?

one year passes...

Anyone got the CD/vinyl box thing? Can someone explain it to me? How is it possible to have a vinyl/CD combo?

And while we're at it, are the patch and pin cool?

randomly I picked up the cd for a coin yesterday.
and damn, this is way beyond what I expected (i.e. more Hives stuff).
proper full on 80s rock excess with massive tunes.
best random for-a-coin cd I have got in ages.
