i only played the first one, which was pretty damn good - it's basically WWF No Mercy with a Def Jam skin

Man, can't believe I failed to put any DDR stuff on my list. Or any bemani at all for that matter! Ridiculous!

# 40 - Street Fighter Anniversary Collection - 22 Points - 3 Votes - 1 #1 Vote

I think I voted for this one due to SF3: Third Strike, as PS2 was the first console I got to play it on and I had crazy amounts of fun with it. It added so much to the series in my opinion and tbh I ahven't played much SF4, particularly the later ones, but I have to say... this game is maybe the peak for me. So I went with the collection. Barely touched Hyper Fighting in here though. This was bought to play SF33S.

i cant remember which burnout i voted for, because i can never remember which one is which. other than the one that removed all the takedown stuff which was UNCONSCIONABLE HORSESHIT

# 39 - Suikoden V - 24 Points - 2 Votes - 1 #1 Vote

This was my #1 vote -- as far as a PS2 RPG goes it was pretty much perfect. Not overly in its own ass, blue skies, tactical combat, a thoughtful collectathon (as with most of the other Suikodens) without the things that complicated/lowered the quality of III and IV. Not sure if I'd rate it #1 today, all things considered, because P3 and P4 were so brilliant (still to beat P4 in fact, started playing it again lately though!) but an absolutely easy recommendation for someone who likes the occasional RPG.

Can't remember the exact timescales, but I played THPS3 for something like 6 months solid, and I'd clocked all but one mission in the first 3 of those. Then I spent weeks and weeks going for the final score threshold on the cruise ship. Kind of amazed it held my attention that long, but I guess I was consistently inching nearer and nearer to where I needed to be, which helped. And so when I finally managed it I got a feeling of achievement that I don't remember getting from any other game ever, really. - JimD

# 32 - Capcom vs SNK 2 - 26 Points - 3 Votes - 1 #1 Vote

I picked this game as my #1. Me and a friend played this game all the time in college. There's actual strategy in this one rather than button mashing. It's a fairly balanced fighter with some of the coolest characters (like Iori, Nakoru, and Terry). It was also fun playing some characters that I never completely mastered (Rolento, King, Athena, Hibiki). I spent a lot of time playing this game. When I finally got around to playing MvsC2 (with a different buddy) the gaming experience was completely different. I was pretty much bashing buttons. MvsC2 is also 'broken'. - captainlorax

# 31 - Final Fantasy X - 28 Points - 4 Votes

X is great with the sound down and skipping through boring bits as quick as possible - a hoy hoy

with X i think it was a combination of a few things wrt the combat that really clicked with me (true turn-based + extremely rapid battles = perfect 2 me) plus having cut scenes with actual voice acting makes a story-based game way more immersive imo, plus having non-static environments - it all just felt refreshing at the time - Princess TamTam

when final fantasy x came out, i played it from 26 hours in 2 days. the 2nd night i had a dream that i was playing it and couldn't beat one of the blitzball games. that is all. - CGC

My new foolish hope = FFX-2 beating FFX. Curious whether the first Lego Star Wars is going to rank higher on innovation, or whether LSWII is the genre representative because it's the right films (and actually a bit better).

THPS3 is Metacritic's Greatest Of All Time, btw.

In hindsight, this game was boring, but at the time I spent aaaaages playing it. It's probably a big part of the reason I even have any interest in cars these days (always wanted an FTO, til I realised they look nowhere near as badass in the flesh as on GT3). - craig G

what's wrong with gradius v? it's fantastic. best gradius game since... gradius 2? or maybe life force or one of the parodius games if those count.

# 26 - The Warriors - 42 Points - 6 Votes

I liked the Warriors, though I never played it through to the end. It was dark, had neat sidegames, got to play as different characters, wasn't all "there are 12 targets in this warehouse before you reach the guy who jumps through a window and gets away or dies." There was one fight that pretty much felt like what it would be like to crawl around in a dark vacant lot, looking for a brick to throw at some unknown perpetrator.

Plus you could hang out in the Warriors clubhouse, work out on the punching bag and chill with some Joe Walsh tunes. - pplains

it's the warriors, there's no point going any further guys - ogmor, on best PS2 game nom thread

The story is basically just an angry dude being angry. But the gameplay's solid, and it features some of the most vibrant, fantastic environment and bosses in any title on the platform. It's like a Greek fantasy interpreted through Frazetta. - Matt D

My bassist claims that GH has improved his arm strength a lot, so that he never gets tired from fretting during practice now. I mean, I dunno, since I've never played it. He's probably better at wanking too. - libcrypt

Probably liked the idea of this more than the game in all honesty. And the synathesia claims are a huge exaggeration, obviously. But the back half of that first level did somehow manage to make shooting baddies feel sort of similar to dancing in a club, and that was prety great. - JimD

Holy shit. Between this and Fahrenheit it's like I've now finally played the two games I've always wanted to play without even realizing they existed before. One, all sensation. The other, all angst. Both - fairly easy for the most part! Perfect! - tracer hand

# 21 - Singstar - 51 Points - 4 Votes - 2 #1 Votes

We had a LOT of late night post-pub singstar parties, and they were all great. Might be the most fun game ever really, definitely the most sociable I've ever played, dozens of great memories in here. I guess people just really enjoy singing together, and people used to do that as a leisure activity, and then for some reason stopped (recorded music? TV?) but singstar was an excuse to start again. So in that sense it ACTUALLY MADE THE (MY) WORLD A BETTER PLACE. Therefore, first place. - JimD

A game I can play with my girlfriend. And lose! Also, watching my parents competing on "Come As You Are" is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. - if

I love Singstar. Scientific proof that you are better at singing than your friends, what more could you ask for? - chap
