in general, you should pay attention to music that you are listening to without being told
agreed. we should move into caves and be self-taught on all the intellectual riches of the world.

I dunno, Deck's verse stood out to me from the first time I heard it, didn't know it was "supposed" to be good so maybe just, YMMV? I like flopson's point about the thematic suggestions, really set up the whole apocalyptic vibe, Wu at the frontlines of this vague future war. Most of the other verses pick up on this same material but dude opens the thing up with no less than atomic bombs. Can't really picture any of the other verses opening this thing. It's like an album, it just "feels" like an opener and the others feel like deep cuts (and Ghost/Rae NAIL the closer).
Always thought U-God was saying "rotating Wing Dings" but, uh, yeah.

omg wow forgot how lopsided the poll results were though, i mean, yeah, deck's verse is dope but there's a lot of other great stuff on this song.

I'm guess i'm just not sure why this is a supposedly standout verse. unless i had been told to pay attention, i don't think i would have given it much thought, compared to say, Ghost's verse on Impossible or Deck's verse in Let My Niggas Live.

the Deck verse grabbed me the very first time i listened to the album, and i went out and bought it at a midnight opening of a record store, so there wasn't anyone telling me that that particular verse was standout

Exactly the same for me! Thats the only album I ever bought for a midnight opening (lol Sam Goody). My high school friends and I had that verse memorized within a couple of hours. The buzz was ridiculous around that album, definitely the most anticipation for an album I've ever felt and THAT verse was the first thing I heard, I'll never forget it.
