Oh yeah, that was really crazy! It reminded me a lot of how I met dell (by trying to chat up a rando cutie at a bar [which I never ever do] and rando cutie being all "Uh are you Stevie D? From ILX?")

ok i do have one story: this past year at sxsw i noticed this lineup that had like The Jacka and Husalah on it and i was like, "i'm pretty sure d33j had something to do with this." i ended up going to the set, and i saw a guy who looked like Fred Durst wearing a Chicago Bulls hat taking pictures in the press area. i didn't say anything because i have no idea what he looks like or if it was actually him but i def thought about approaching him.

Why does this not seem so strange to me? I've three times now let touring bands sleep at my place and once met someone for dinner where they've been cagey and/or completely silent about their ILX activity-awareness-participaction. To me that is totally far weirder than marching up to somebody and saying "I know you from a message board, let's talk!"

And by "far weirder" I still mean "not weird at all", your privacy is your own of course.

Honestly I did "I know OF you from a message board, what's up? " to dr3w d. and ended up chatting with him, but much more to his parter mart1n (who is one of the nicest, funniest people I've ever met)

It's not so much weird that she approached me as much as it is that she was there/I was there/she recognized me; the sheer coincidence of it all. Like, I've never been to Atlanta, and I've certainly never been to this bar, and then *boom* someone is like "Oh you're Stevie D"

Not close to the same thing, but part of my job is formatting print publications into a web format so they look nice when you read them online.

I put together this slideshow about some family who was running a marathon. They struck me because the husband was Asian and the wife was white, which meant her name was some ungodly combination like Tammy Lou Wu or something. Their three kids were cute.

Hours later, I'm picking up my kids at daycare. The elevator doors open and out - steps - the Wu Family. (Enter: the Wu Clan, I'll save you the time.)

It was just really weird to recognize someone who wasn't famous.

And then there was the time that I flew to Denver, stood outside of homo II's house for three hours, and then flew back, but I've never told anyone about that.

xxp - Well, it's that, yeah, but it's also that she came up to you with a pic and said, "Is this you?!" That's just bizarro behavior tbh. Would have been a lot less weird if she'd just asked if you were on ILX, I think.

In my very early days of ilx, I was reading an old thread at work and the last post was by fritz wollner. A moment later I served a customer and when he gave me his credit card to pay, I saw his name was fritz wollner. I doubt it was actually the same guy but it was still super weird.
