It did come out - I've seen a neglected copy in the used PS2 section at one of my local Gamestops

It got a #1 vote from one of the votes I solicited from the greater Internet at large, but someone whose tastes fall fairly in line with ILG. Sadly he provided no further words.

He also voted for Sub Rebellion which I couldn't even find good screens for, hence the image of a plastic toy

I think I was one of the votes for OutRun 2006 and I only for the first time played it on anything other than a D-Pad recently (they have it at a bowling alley in Montreal) and it still absolutely holds up. It is at once the most effortless racing game ever -- everything feels floaty, and clean, but not in a control-less way -- and one of the most white-knuckle, as you gun it through the offramps to make it to the next checkpoint at the end of each level. The version I played most was admittedly the PC port but I loved the idea that every level was a different place in America (or, later, when I unlocked the second chunk of levels, I think it was the rest of the world?) and that you just drove so fast that you got from SoCal to San Francisco in 90 seconds. It fit the feel of the game perfectly -- a ten-minute drive across the world in a drifty, noisy Ferrari with a somewhat needy, incredibly encouraging babe in the passenger's seat. OutRun is bliss.

SSX Tricky was awesome - like GTA3 one of those early generation classics that it seemed like everyone played

yea, outrun is kind of a perfect game. I voted for it as well.

I think I only ever played that Outrun game in a Sportsters bar here in Edinburgh - one of those places with TVs at every table, and PS2s with rank old controllers that barely work for you to play in between halves (of football, not beer).
