well you know what i mean

pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 03:34 (eleven years ago) link

i also like how this album continues the trend of the single being thrown in as a bonus track even tho neither the single nor the album have any marketability and the album is even more hodgepodge than the single

pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 03:35 (eleven years ago) link

too bad he couldn't get the kate bush track to happen that would have at least had some interest

Guys this album terrifies me

I want it to be so good and I know it won't be and it will me cry and then I will pretend I like it anyway in public while cursing it anonymously on a blog

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 04:34 (eleven years ago) link

Well I still like the thread topic track
Tracklist is not pleasing to the eye or well being tho

Maurice Garland said it was good, but then Maurice Garland said the Yelawolf album was good so I'm starting to think that whenever Maurice Garland says that an album is good before it drops it means that it really really sucks.

what is phantogram, is it bad?

little dragon are only ok but she has a very nice voice so those features might be decent

the yelawolf album was pretty good!

#YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 08:54 (eleven years ago) link

The Yelawolf album effectively killed his buzz. It had a couple of good songs, but not nearly enough.

weak willie (longneck), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 09:42 (eleven years ago) link

i wish i could ban all use of the word "buzz" everywhere, who gives a fuck about it

#YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 09:46 (eleven years ago) link

Almost everyone who cared about Yelawolf before the album stopped caring about him with the album, and he gained no new fans, Lex. Somebody should give a fuck about that.

Almost everyone who cared about Yelawolf before the album stopped caring about him with the album, and he gained no new fans, Lex.

this sounds a bit like a statistic pulled from your ass. i still care about yelawolf. i don't know why a slightly patchy major label debut (which still had a decent number of highlights) would make anyone stop caring; if they did it's unlikely they cared that much in the first place. anyway my point was more that if you felt the album was a misstep, talk about the music and the songs, not some nebulous hand-wavey idea of "buzz"

#YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 10:55 (eleven years ago) link

Trunk Muzik was my favorite rap album that year and I didn't listen to Radioactive twice.

thraeds of life (The Reverend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 11:19 (eleven years ago) link

So yeah, I stopped caring about Yelawolf.

thraeds of life (The Reverend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 11:19 (eleven years ago) link

I did too. And I was a huge fan.

weak willie (longneck), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 11:33 (eleven years ago) link

well i guess that proves your point then!! why ever talk about the music

#YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 11:36 (eleven years ago) link

As did all of my friends who were also fans. Except for this girl I know who thinks he is the best ever. But even she is struggling.

weak willie (longneck), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 11:37 (eleven years ago) link

We could talk about the music, but the music wasn't very good.

weak willie (longneck), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 11:38 (eleven years ago) link

yeah lex see sometimes when people say "buzz" they're not talking about industry or media, they're talking about ground level fan satisfaction

some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 11:39 (eleven years ago) link

about half the album was very good

#YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 11:40 (eleven years ago) link

"ground level fan satisfaction" is a bit more than "all of my friends" though, which is where people talking about that kind of buzz usually fall down

#YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 11:41 (eleven years ago) link

most people agree that about half the album was good. you're just the only person who seems to think that was enough.

some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 11:43 (eleven years ago) link

like if your batting average goes down 50% from mixtape to album, yes people will say you dropped the ball and probably stop paying attention (especially if it doesn't sell)

some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 11:44 (eleven years ago) link

i'd rather have an album with genuine high points (even if just half of it) than one which is boringly solid throughout but without a single song i completely love (à la the new brandy) - the latter is far more likely to make me stop paying attention

anyway i'm not saying it was a great album or anything, and yeah he didn't pull off the transition to a major label release, but 50% very good = not terrible. kinda feel like the fact that it didn't sell is making people judge it more harshly than they should

#YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 11:48 (eleven years ago) link

because there's nothing sadder than selling out without actually selling

some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 11:49 (eleven years ago) link

I don't think I genuinely love any of the songs on the album.

weak willie (longneck), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 11:59 (eleven years ago) link

thraeds of life (The Reverend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 14:14 (eleven years ago) link

that one track with kid rock is still amazing but yeah i can't remember any of the others on there that i liked. the one w/ lil jon is cool actually.

but yeah i've effectively stopped caring about yelawolf... it's not so much that the album was bad per se as it was that he seemed so noncommittal & it just all came off really poorly. saying that it killed his buzz is a pretty accurate description! i.e. he's released a few mixtapes since then & i haven't seen a single review of one or anyone talk about them on twitter etc

pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 14:21 (eleven years ago) link

i still maintain that i'd love to see him do a total deliverance style country album and preferably an entire collaborative album w/ kid rock

pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 14:22 (eleven years ago) link

i think the kid rock track was the exact moment i was like "peace god"

thraeds of life (The Reverend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 14:25 (eleven years ago) link

i'm SURE when "throw it up" dropped before the album everyone was blown away by it

#YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 14:29 (eleven years ago) link

lol yeah kid rock track was trash

some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 14:36 (eleven years ago) link

i actually did listen to the yelawolf/travis barker EP, it was ok

some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 14:36 (eleven years ago) link

The reviews I read of this year's Heart of Dixie mixtape all frame the tape around the premise that Radioactive was a potentially career killing disaster.

Also, Yela opens the tape by rapping “Why do I feel like I never had Marshall Mathers’ co-sign sometimes?/Like Radioactive failed? Maybe when I tell myself I’m one of the best, I’m just lyin’," so he seems to think something went wrong there, too.

Evan R, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 14:41 (eleven years ago) link

I co-sign w/ all the travesty talk.

This is Phantogram, by the way. I actually like them quite a bit but they have no place on a fucking Big Boi record. (Plus the collab they've already teased from the Big Boi record sucks.)

looking back at the yela thread, yeah some people put in good notices for the track, but no one was remotely as enthusiastic about it (or the album) as you

hahaha, OTM

So yeah, I feel like to the extent that Radioactive didn't kill Yelawolf's career, it's because not a lot of people actually heard it. Terrible album.

Oh, HERE we go. Was about to start a thread on this since I couldn't find anything. Just stumbled on this on Spotify while looking for Lucious Left Foot and did a double-take: Big Boi has a new album?

I'm listening to it for the first time and it's sounding great. Couple hipster-bait moves that are so left-field they don't look like cash-ins (Wavves?!), especially amidst the general MAME/keyboard DIY sound of this thing. Feels of a piece. Great hooks, haven't had time to dig into the verses yet or anything. But I'm gonna keep it in rotation.

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 23 December 2012 03:18 (eleven years ago) link

ok it did kind of hit a wall with 'tremendous damage' followed by 'descending.' Which...I guess is the end of the album? I hate how vague Spotify is about this stuff.

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 23 December 2012 03:25 (eleven years ago) link

six months pass...

finally got around to hearing this. can't imagine who would stan for this outside of people who heard the second Crystal Castles album and thought to themselves "wouldn't it be cool if there was RAPPING on this album?"

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 22:00 (ten years ago) link

I still love gossip unrepententantly. Been awhie since I tried the full album but the hits competely outweighed the (admittedly abysmal) misses
