2) In complete honesty, I did not know what rockism when I first read the question, and most of what I know now is based off of the previous posts. However, I will do a little research on my own to find out for myself what it means. My first impressions, at least, were that much like feminism and racism, rockism is concerned with the superiority or inferiority of rock music (or maybe pop culture in general (?)). I know this is a really obvious and vague response, but its based on my first impressions of the word itself.

4) Frankly, I have never heard of Deerhoof, but I am downloading some of their stuff right now. However, I have heard a fair amount of Sufjan Stevens. In particular, the album Illinois, which I was intrigued by, it being my home state. Unfortunately, I feel that his music is a bit too mellow for me and not enough indie (I'm not sure that came out right). I did really like Chicago and To Be Alone with you (I don't think thats on the Illinois album, but I heard it on my friend's ipod). Both songs sound a lot like the Headlights, an indie band from Illinois (my hometown actually), which I really like.

5) One, please

1) Name three shared albums (+192kbps only) that others have successfully downloaded from you in the past week
One Love - Your Disco will eat you
The 12th Man Boned
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank

2) What is rockism? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)
Didn't have a clue but after a quick google define i came up with this: Rockism is an ideology of popular music criticism, originating in the British music press in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Now due to not being longer than 8 sentences i have to expand. Seems like it is about how some bands are not as authentic as others. this is due to mostly to the use of technology. back in the good old times of music musican's got down and dirty with their music and composed, made and recorded every note themselves. Now a days they can be using a keyboard to play drums if they have to as well as getting others to fill in the gaps or even make the whole song up for them completely. I think this is happening most in the pop culture where now a days its not about the true music but rather how many sales you can make and how much profit. Music used to be about the expression of the artist but now its all commericialised and may even have items put in as advertisement (both in video and audio form) to get that extra kick of moula. Its a sad world. well enough rambling that is what i thought off the top of my head.... any good?

3) Post a link to your favorite picture of Cat Power
http://www.magnetreps.com/img/portfolio/310_m.jpg

4) Which artist is better, Sufjan Stevens or Deerhoof? Why? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)
To be totally honest i'm not too familiar with deerhoof so i can't really make a decision, but on that note i will say Surfan Stevens :p
anyways if need me to get some of their music and compare to give me a chance at an invite. i could give it a go just holler out.

5) How many invites do you require? Just one Please

I have one more question..
What kind of lubricant do you use?

dthemora, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 20:29 (seventeen years ago) link

someone please ban Px2.

How are people supposed to get Oink invites with trolls hanging around?

g®▲Ðұ, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 20:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Haha, nice, that last post wasn't me. I don't particularly feel like calling dthemora a dipshit. Neither am I a transvestite with a flaccid, wildly gyrating penis.

But I am gay. And I prefer astroglide.

Mr. Grady. You WERE the caretaker. You, uh, chopped your wife and daughters into little bits. And then you blew your brains out. Why don't you ban me?

Px2, Thursday, 29 March 2007 03:11 (seventeen years ago) link

The only questions that answers are these I already asked..

Seriously, you're 18, right? Have you ever thought to become an actor? There is a lot of motion in your words..

Grady, if you allow me, I have a correction to make to your question:
How are people supposed to get Oink invites with trolls hanging around ?

1. Feist "The Reminder" Low" Drums and Guns " Air "Pocket Symphony"

2. Rockism originated in the 70's/80's as an ideaology that a traditional rock set-up ( drums, bass, guitar, vocals) is the only truly authentic form of rock. Technology and help from any of its intrumental offspring are frowned upon. Rockism seemed to be a way to claim and protect the organic quality of music: humans and their intsrumetns. During that era, technology was being introduced that, even though it may have been exciting at the time for some of our greatest musicians, has proven to be detrimental to our current state of music. Of course, some have found ways of possibly bending technology to fit into "rockism". Sadly, most haven't. It reminds me of Lars Von Trier's Dogma 95 ideaology which tried through very strict guidelines to keep film "real". I think that Rockism probably came out of a very basic need to keep music sacred. However, as Lou Reed can attest, Metal music may often benefit.

3. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a201/mydogespresso/catpower.jpg

. It is maybe difficult to compare Sufjan and Deerhoof because subjectively, I don't see any real comparison. Regarding who is a better artist, well, that is subjective as well. Deerhoof definitely pushes the boundaries, but I think that in time, things with staying power are the ones termed "important" which signifies the collective zeitgeist's opinion that said artist was "better". Within those lines, Im going with Sufjan. What started out as an interesting idea ( records about states) has turned into some very satisfying output. By following constraints, I think he was able to open himself up more. This is very much like what the serialist composers did in the 50's/60's. I am interested in where he is headed, Deerhoof, not so much

5. one invite, please
