i am sketching in my head what they ought to be but yeah basically the first one would have to be his getting fired from apple

each scene should be him returning food @ a restaurant

It's free but I would have to leave the house and it's cold. Think I might just go to bed tbh, bed is better than sorkin

ya gotta work whatever magic ya got

That jobs film was so bad

Hahaha I just looked at the synopsis for molly's game & saw that it's about poker, that's perfect - sadly tho I think not even a bad poker movie will get me out in the cold at 9pm on a weeknight at this point in my life :-(

I vaguely recall watching Sports Night maybe five or six times. It definitely had that sorkiny quality about it, but that's a quality that wears out its welcome in a short time. The Social Network was just about the right length for the sorkiny waters not to rise too high by the end.

three months pass...

Molly's Game opens with five minutes of breathless voice-over, related to the main story tangentially, but mostly there for the sake of a clunky punchline. The best things the rest of the way are the hopelessly crummy poker player (clueless even when he wins) and the space cadet who declares his love for Molly. Passable diversion overall.

agree re: molly's game, feels both lecturing and self-serving toward molly mostly throughout, while simultaneously pretty boring; good refresher as to why i avoid sorkin actually

Oh fuck off. Also, what’s wrong with being mean to the ruling class? Does it hurt your feelings Aaron? https://t.co/gLkpQxtMrc

never seen it, but i'm voting malice, based on the 'god' quote that gets c+p's on here all the time. i don't really like aaron sorkin. he's no dick wolf.

I independently had this thought last night! like amongst all the fans of dick wolf shows I know, nobody thinks "this is exactly how the criminal justice system works" or "this is how the criminal justice system should work" and people acknowledge it as a spin on the real world

a lot of Sorkin fans -- and Sorkin himself -- seem to think he's scripting an ideal of how things should go and it's incredibly weird

mh, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 16:34 (five years ago) link

he has adapted To Kill a Mockingbird for Broadway starring Jeff Daniels, and it's going to run for years

v weird that noted egomaniac aaron sorkin thinks the world should be led by men who look and act and speak very much like aaron sorkin

the Sorkin adap of To Kill a Mockingbird didn't get nominated for the best play Tony, and ever since its huge ads in the NYT have featured praise from... Obama, Bill Clinton, Pelosi, and James Comey.

The theatrical fetish object for Biden Democrats, and/or those whose ideal hero is a white Alabaman from the '30s.

Malice! So great; so sleazy and trashy and daft, moves like a runaway train. Not quite in the Erotic Thriller genre, hard to say wtf it is. There are about five Oscar winners in it too. All the 20-somethings on Twitter and Letterboxd seem to love it, Sorkin hates it of course it goes without saying.

Malice is cheesey great, that Baldwin line about i dont need to play god i AM god or whatever is classic

Malice was shot around Amherst, Holyoke, and Northampton so that’s fun. I believe it’s the only film where my dorm makes a cameo.

― piscesx,

doesn't it become an inexplicable serial killer thing halfway through its running time?

xp no the serial killer B plot is where the crazy thing *starts*, literally the first scene is a murder (then later Gwyneth Paltrow gets whacked) but by halftime the killer has been apprehended and is never mentioned again.

piscesx, Wednesday, 5 May 2021 20:27 (three years ago) link

this is exactly the sort of movie that exists for me to read the wiki synopsis and chuckle at the inanity/insanity
