I can't tell if that's a steak or a pork chop in one of them...either way, it looks like the winning toss in a cow-patty bingo game.

"Do I think I'm falling short? No. By no means. I'm doing the type of food that America loves and we're doing it right way. Could we have made mistakes? Do we make mistakes? Absolutely. Do we strive to be the best? Yes," he told Today's Savannah Guthrie while surrounded by a giant cheeseburger and other purportedly heart attack-inducing dishes at Guy's American Kitchen & Bar (which, ironically, is housed in the Times' former headquarters on West 44th Street).

I'd still go the Guy Fieri meetup though.

"To me it's impossible to have a dining experience and have every single thing wrong -- unless you come in with a different agenda and you want to sensationalize something and you want to blow it out of the water."

Is there any one in the world who has been to more than ten different restaurants in their life and NOT had a dining experience where everything went wrong?

Three Word Username, Thursday, 15 November 2012 15:25 (eleven years ago) link

Today's Savannah Guthrie while surrounded by a giant cheeseburger

This made me think of:

Dear Sir, I am glad to hear that your studio audience disapproves of the last skit as strongly as I. As a naval officer I abhor the implication that the Royal Navy is a haven for cannibalism. It is well known that we now have the problem relatively under control, and that it is the RAF who now suffer the largest casualties in this area. And what do you think the Argylls ate in Aden. Arabs?

Yours etc. Captain B.J. Smethwick in a white wine sauce with shallots, mushrooms and garlic.

Asked whether he aimed to knock peoples' socks off, the California-based Fieri said: "At this point in time, in two months, (we're) not really expecting to. We're trying to. We're trying as hard as we can to make it right, to do it right. We got a pretty big menu."

Okay come on now; how can you start out with incredulity that EVERYTHING about someone's dining experience could go wrong, then follow up with "well we just opened so we aren't really trying yet"?

"by the way everybody i opened a three-floor, two-zillion-seater in the most expensive city in america, which also has literally thousands of dining options, from salmonella carts to michelin three-star-ers, but we're just gonna do what my man glenn frey said and take it easy. things will happen when they happen."

Aren't all of these food network restaurants necessarily awful?

I think some of Bobby Flay's restaurants are supposed to be good (or at least were at one time, years ago)

and from what I understand Frontera Grill's reputation is more like "stuffy, white-napkin Mexican, too expensive, inauthentic" ... not "completely inedible, are you sure this is food"

but I haven't been to any of these places so
