Was there a distinct moment that FACT essentially became the buzzfeed of music sites, or is it just endemic to its untrammeled decline into clickbait, irrelevant-news, and manufactured-attitude fueled mediocrity?

ed.b, Friday, 19 June 2015 19:36 (eight years ago) link

Lol-hyperbole, but still, am I mistaken for thinking it was waaaay more relevant and interesting four to five years ago?

ed.b, Friday, 19 June 2015 19:37 (eight years ago) link

probably when they redesigned their site, early this year i think?

lil urbane (Jordan), Friday, 19 June 2015 19:45 (eight years ago) link

Fact was never good

saer, Friday, 19 June 2015 19:46 (eight years ago) link

they had good lists, even though i agree there are too many lists on the internet

but they pointed me toward some interesting music i might have otherwise overlooked (new and old music)

wizzz! (amateurist), Friday, 19 June 2015 19:55 (eight years ago) link

they still do: http://www.factmag.com/tag/for-club-use-only/

i've definitely noticed how clickbait-y they've gotten too, i only end up there when someone links a good mix or video.

i still like fact, but is there any point to their singles reviews section? no one seems to have much of an opinion on anything. like theyre all too worried about being told they dont know what theyre talking about.

very sad to learn that FACT will no longer be publishing written content. we had some golden years back there and i'm proud of what we did - sometimes adding vital context and sometimes just noising up diplo for the lols. the real FACT magazine was truly the friends i made alo--

Very garbage. I had a nice run writing for them for a while.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 14 January 2020 16:37 (four years ago) link

This really blows. I read the magazine since it came out on paper in 2003. I can't imagine returning to Fact if it will be all-video, personally (but I guess I'm lol old).

John Xela had some things to say about it, too: https://twitter.com/johnxela
