I'm wearing my druzy studs today. I'm not much into diamonds really but I love these for the sparkle. New short hair let's the show through too:

huh. did not know. bonus, learned what a vug is.

Vugs (also spelled vugh) are small to medium-sized cavities inside rock that may be formed through a variety of processes. Most commonly cracks and fissures opened by tectonic activity (folding and faulting) are partially filled by quartz, calcite, and other secondary minerals. Open spaces within ancient collapse breccias are another important source of vugs. Vugs may also result when mineral crystals or fossils inside a rock matrix are later removed through erosion or dissolution processes, leaving behind irregular voids. The inner surfaces of such vugs are often coated with a crystal druse. Fine crystals are often found in vugs where the open space allows the free development of external crystal form. The term vug is not applied to veins and fissures that have become completely filled, but may be applied to any small cavities within such veins. Geodes are a common vug formed rock, although that term is usually reserved for more rounded crystal-lined cavities in sedimentary rocks and ancient lavas.[1]

The word vug was introduced to the English language by Cornish miners, from the days when Cornwall was a major supplier of tin. The Cornish word was vooga which meant "cave."[2]

Lech - it's a type of quartz, I think. It's organic and sparkly looking at the same time which = <3

I just got a new stone in my engagement ring! The place I originally got it from does upgrades - you trade in your old stone for exactly what you paid for it, and then pick a new one. I always wanted a princess or emerald cut, but settled for an oval bc that's all they had. Swapped it out for an slightly bigger emerald cut lsat week, so happy.

that's really cool, j! congrats! E, that is very pretty. I like sparkly. I ordered three grown up pairs of earrings (aka not from Claire's/Ardenes) a few weeks ago from Stella & Dot - one is very similar to those. Excited to receive!

Thanks! I don't really buy myself expensive stuff mostly just costume but my grandmother passed away last year and I splurged on these using a little money she gave me (~ $100 which for me is a splurge on this sort of thing) so I'd have something to remember her by. I don't wear them very often because they seem like special occasion accessories to me so when I do I feel all fancy and shit.

awww, I think that's one of the nicest ways to remember a person - especially if you can get an actual piece they wore! My Grandma's house was broken into last year & all her jewelery stolen which erased that chance for me. Bah. Which reminds me, I wanted to do a web search to find a similar necklace to her favourite.. thanks!

Yeah I have a hard time spending a lot of money on single pieces of jewelry - my wedding set, including cost of new stone, came in at just over 500, and several years later that still feels like an appalling amount of $ to spend on two rings.

woah nice justine. i didnt even know you could do that sort of thing.

I have my moms old white gold wedding band with a grip of diamonds around it from when she was married to my evil step father. She told me to get it melted down and design something I would like to wear. Feels like bad luck.

My mum tried to give me her diamond solitaire ring from her first marriage to a wife beater. unsurprisingly, I declined.
