George Harrison - All Things Must POLL

Yeah, this is pretty much the album Let It Come Down wants to be. Especially something like Isn't It A Pity or Hear Me Lord.

Love I Dig Love, and Isn't It A Pity, but I had a sudden change of heart and went for What Is Life because it is just so much fun. Love the strings that come in at the end.

Solid results! "Beware of Darkness" is definitely a sleeper on this - love the final push where the arrangement thickens out a little on "it can hit you - It can hu-u-urt you" etc.

only 1 vote for Let it Down? Despite the song inventing Spiritualized? I'm surprised at the top song too - it's great in the context of the album, but never struck me as standing out in particular. I thought Awaiting on You All would walk this, tbh.

Spiritualized pretty much turned to shit once they got into "Let It Down", imo.

"Early takes" has some lovely solo acoustic ATMP songs. Not amazing or anything, but nice.

the single biggest problem with this poll is that every track on discs 1 and 2 is excellent. i couldn't narrow it down past six tracks and just went with 'wah wah'.

Anyone else hear similarities between 'Beware of Darkness' and McCartney's 'No More Lonely Nights'?

I've always thought Wah-Wah is, probably intentionally ironically, the most McCartney-esque song on here. it's got that oom-pah music-hall rhythm Macca is so fond of, including a pounding "banan-finger" piano part and characteristically fluid bassline

I love that, at the Concert For George, Paul had to play a bunch of ATMP songs that either he'd rejected for the Beatles, or were digs at him for rejecting those songs.

I wonder if Paul really DID buy George his wah-wah? And then refuse to let him use it at all during the "Get Back" sessions...

It's documented somewhere that he, in particular, rejected a bunch of those songs? And that some others are digs at him? Missed it if so.

Paul singing ATMP was one of the best parts of that concert.

In an interview with Crawdaddy magazine, Harrison explained: "That was the song, when I left from the Let It Be movie, there's a scene where Paul and I are having an argument, and we're trying to cover it up. Then the next scene I'm not there and Yoko's just screaming, doing her screeching number. Well, that's where I'd left, and I went home to write 'Wah-Wah.' It had given me a wah-wah, like I had such a headache with that whole argument. It was such a headache."

Yeah, I remember that story. Not about to weigh in on who was the villain in their argument or something. McCartney has been dumped on to a ridiculous degree over the years.

He has, but also, if you watch Let It Be, the thought of being in a band with Paul McCartney takes on a shitty new meaning.

Don't remember it that way, but I haven't seen it in decades. And anyone can have a bad day, etc.

Do remember that people seemed to view Paul's perspective on those sessions more favorably when this book came out.

Let it roll is my fave Harrison song ever. Is it controversial to say this record is my favourite Beatles associated album

I don't think I've told this story before: when I was a teenager my cousin and I made several short movies with my dad's 8mm camera and editor. One was called "The Art of Dying," and the soundtrack (on cassette!) was segments of Harrison's Electronic Sound. The plot was mostly a ripoff of the TV series "Kung Fu," with my cousin and I in our karate uniforms. After fighting his "deadly" german shepherd we died in a field. The End.

Too bad nothing on Let It Come Down is as good as this.

Also I think I've finally come around to this album. Hearing the 2010 mix has made all the difference.

Did they dick about with the mixes for the CD reissue/s?

It's a lossless release that you could download straight from the official website and that has since been withdrawn but if you can get your hands on it, I'd say it's very much worth your while. It sounds a lot more natural and less Spector-esque to my ears. Even the folks over at Steve Hoffman agree that it's the ideal way to hear All Things Must Pass.

Never much liked the echo-laden mix, but don't especially like most of the songs either. Harrison's 70s decline is over-emphasized, there are as many good songs on Extra Texture as on All Things Must Pass (three or four). I'd have voted "What is Life".

"What is Life", "I'd Have You Anytime", "Beware of Darkness", maybe "Isn't It a Pity" or "My Sweet Lord". Most of the remaining songs just don't get over melodically or lyrically, and the Apple Jam album is junk.

"Apple Scruffs" slaps.

I love ATMP - except for the "jam" disc, it's always been an excellent album to me, and I don't even consider that third disc to be part of the album anymore. (When George promoted the reissue in 2000, he stated in a Billboard interview that "For the jams, I didn't want to just throw in the cupboard, and yet at the same time it wasn't part of the record; that's why I put it on a separate label to go in the package as a kind of bonus." There's at least one interview from 1970 where Harrison basically said the same, adding that he was annoyed that the list price was also raised accordingly because he was under the impression that Capitol would price it as a double LP per his request.)

"You" has been the only track I ever liked from Extra Texture, but if there's something else on there that I should revisit, I would definitely give it another listen.

Harrison otm about its "grotty" self-production. His singing is worse than on Dark Horse.
