Lovelace (Lovelace), Monday, 8 May 2006 13:47 (seventeen years ago) link

I havent listened to this but everything I've read about grindie makes me cringe. Just the name for fucks sake...

Lovelace (Lovelace), Monday, 8 May 2006 13:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Is this not just taking the worst bits of both genres and mashing it up, instead of the good bits...?

gekoppel (Gekoppel), Monday, 8 May 2006 23:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, all the great bits of grime and haircut indie are being ignored in this.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 8 May 2006 23:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Sarcastic! No I mean there are really good bits, but especially the kinds of indie bands Statik has got really don't fit at all... it just ends up tending towards the yob end of the spectrum in both genres... (shoutyness- the eastlondoness of it all...) rather than intriguing poly rhythms or whatever finesse actually hooked some people into grime in the first place...

gekoppel (Gekoppel), Monday, 8 May 2006 23:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, but the whole idea is to give grime artists who's sale figures won't stretch to them being able to buy a new juicer (ie, all of them) a chance to piggyback some indie bands of various successes to higher sales figure, it was never going to be the most thoughtful and in-depth and revolutionary of genres. I mean, it's gonna be yobbish and populist and REAL MEN DRINKING BEER AND SHAGGING BIRDS and Lethal B and the Rakes just going "Garlic bread? Garlic? Bread?" at each other for four hours.

Who are going to be the Specials of Grindie?

Surely the grime/indie crossover should have been called "Brrrap Your Hands Say Yeah".

That's it. That's my joke.

There's going to be a "dubstep primer" in NME this week apparently. Oh well, time to abandon ship.

"Dancing with the Rudeboys" is fucking awful

Dom Passantino, Sunday, 18 November 2007 20:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Lethal B and the Rakes just going "Garlic bread? Garlic? Bread?" at each other for four hours.

Would be better than "Dancing with the Rudeboys"

Was listening to "The Avenue" earlier on, Roll Deep should have done a guest verse at the end of The Fray's "How to Save A Life", that'd be a single of the year contender then

Some critics have accused it of being a press invention (comparable to New Rave).
