BBW is going to be hard to follow, but I cant wait for this. I love these guys.

is preston on the new album/tour?

Preston's long gone (he can't stay in any band for more than 12 months, it would seem). The new bass player is Jeff Matz from Zeke, who was already touring with them at this time last year. I did see them twice on the UK tour with Preston on bass and it was an awesome thing to behold - as my mate pointed out at one point during the set - "he's playing that bass like a piano" (sounds better in a Scouse accent).

Probably the most retarded (for the listener)/insane live band I've ever seen in terms of sheer musical force....just awesome. The volume they play at should not even be legal.

John OTM. Much as I've loved everything since, they still haven't topped the debut. More groove and variety, plus killer songs. And, yeah, one of the very best live bands I've seen in the last half decade.

Art of Self Defense just fucking crushes. The bass intro to "Fireface", goddamn.

That's the only HoF album I don't own and haven't heard. I need to rectify that.

Big time, you won't be disappointed.

Fireface, hell yeah. And 10,000 Years might be the best thing they've done yet.

Last night we listened again to "Death is this communion" for the first time in a lot of time and it is really really good. A couple of songs are just immense.

HIGH ON FIRE SET TO BEGIN WORK ON NEW ALBUM

World-renowned power trio HIGH ON FIRE will begin work on its long-awaited, fifth studio album and follow-up to 2007’s Death is This Communion this August. The esteemed band will commence pre-production in Los Angeles with producer Greg Fidelman (Metallica, Slayer, Johnny Cash) and the goal of capturing “the ultimate High on Fire experience.”

The new HIGH ON FIRE album is slated for an early 2010 release. When asked for comment, Pike states, “We look forward to sharing the dark seas of our new riffs and tragic stories. Soon the next saga of High on Fire's world will be known.”

All reports indicate the new HIGH ON FIRE material to be “heavier, louder and more intricate.” Prior to entering the studio, the Oakland-based band will embark on a string of California live dates set to kick off on August 7 in Eureka, CA. The group is expected to preview some of its new material live for the very first time at these shows.

Pike, like Scott "Wino" Weinrich, is a devotee of David Icke's theories about lizard people secretly ruling the earth. There was a song about it on Death Is This Communion and one of the Hidden Hand albums recommended an Icke book in the liner notes.

Can't sit still waiting for this

I ve loved them every time I ve seen them. But it’s kind of a weird tour, no? I wanna go to the Chicago show, but it’s in Northwest Indiana. Jersey City instead of New York, Cleveland Heights instead of Cleveland. Just seems like odd choices.

Very disappointing show.

It wasn't bad. A solid B plus.

But the sound in the venue sucked so fucking bad. Performances were fine but I've seen this band raze the fucking ground and tonight it was ....muted

Bummer to hear that, they've rocked all the other times I've seen them. Yeah, I hope they come back to play Chicago again soon because the Indiana thing is a festival for 3 Floyd's Dark Lord Day (which is actually where I last saw them play and ran into Matt earlier in the day), so I doubt it would be the same length as a headlining show elsewhere.

The album is fucking incredible though, I love it.

I've every much warmed to it, and the material went over well live.

apparently their last show in Tampa also had sound issues last year too, I'm beginning to wonder wtf is up.

Ugh, I certainly hope they get that figured out, but even more glad I'm not trekking over to Indiana to deal with the beer crowds to see their likely abbreviated set if that's an ongoing issue for them on the tour.

Sounds like a front-of-house issue more than a band issue. I doubt they travel with their own soundman. Very few bands below, say, Slipknot level do.

Being that ours was the tour opener and was in a venue that doesn't usually host bands that big, hoping it was a one off. Fingers crossed.

3 Floyds has done quite a few shows with metal bands.

Yeah, annually they have their Dark Lord Day beer release that has grown into a big daylong festival. As part of that they’ve typically had a metal stage, this year it’s High On Fire, Abbath and a few other bands. It’s fun, I’ve been in the past, but it’s also hard to do unless you manage to get a group going or don’t plan to drink, since there’s no public transportation to get there.

It is good beer. Robert the Bruce is the stuff.
