in order to have a BMI in the "normal" range i would have to weigh 190 lbs. or less which means i would look like i just came from Dachau
Yeah, BMI is weird. Right now I'm about 10 pounds over the weight at which I look best. If I were to lose enough weight to get to the middle of the "normal" range, I'd look disgustingly skinny. Maybe it's because I'm tall?

OKay, so I get that it tells people they're fat when they're not. But does it therefore also tell people they're healthy when they're really too thin?
― Upt0eleven, Friday, 11 April 2008 20:20 (fifteen years ago) link
BMI tells me I am skinny so I like it and it is useful to me.
Note: I do not actually look like I have a sub 20 BMI.

BMI is a medical metric shorthand that correlates fairly well with a few things, it's not supposed to be about your build or your fucking image of yourself, that's like saying "my baby's apgar score was an 8 and not a 10, they're not taking into account blah blah blah!!"

how the fuck is dude who is 6 ft tall and 150 lbs normal looking?
I'm 6 foot and I'm currently 165 lbs, but my personal 'best weight' for my body is about 152 lbs. This is based on how I feel, not how I look. But I still have a visible fat roll at my waist even down to about 157 lbs.
As for "normal looking", I look ok to me. I am supposed to be skinny.

was gonna say... I came in at 22.7 (5'9", 154lbs.) but back when I was eating better, going to the gym etc, I was up around 158 lbs, with considerably less belly fat.

since xmas i now fast walk 4km a day (40 mins), and that has definitely helped me get back down to my usual 75kg as i had put on a couple of red wine enhanced kilos over lockdown.but seems like the daily walk has helped me find the balance between enjoying wine and exercise.

Reminds me of this: A man in his 30s with no underlying health conditions was offered a Covid vaccine after an NHS error mistakenly listed him as just 6.2cm in height.
Liam Thorp was told he qualified for the jab because his measurements gave him a body mass index of 28,000.
