What do I have to do to eliminate this person from the earth?

Aimless, Wednesday, 24 October 2012 18:15 (eleven years ago) link

according to that rant it wasn't their generation who invented plastic bags and thought they were a good idea

d-_-b (mh), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 18:17 (eleven years ago) link

Why didn't she just use paper instead of plastic?

Mordy, Wednesday, 24 October 2012 18:20 (eleven years ago) link

but wait the narrator is the one who said they didn't have "the green thing"

difficult listening hour, Wednesday, 24 October 2012 18:20 (eleven years ago) link

It's more that the people who are now old invented all these "conveniences" where "convenience" just meant "we can throw it in the garbage when we're done with it", without any thought as to where that garbage went, or whether it was really a better way. Now tons of people insist it's the *only* way.

This entire "oh, I expect a plastic bag, even though I grew up SO MUCH BETTER THAN YOU DID" is horseshit, why not just smile and say that you're happy things are going back to the way things were, you not-so-nostalgic old windbag

d-_-b (mh), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 18:20 (eleven years ago) link

you can see where that horrible shit has been pinged backwards and forwards between Britishes English and American English, which might account for that list of stuff we really didn't have in the UK in the 70s

rhino what boys like (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 18:20 (eleven years ago) link

"we didn't have that green thing" --> "I am a sarcastic twit and never questioned the changes"

d-_-b (mh), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 18:21 (eleven years ago) link

"pop bottles", "nappies", "the state of Wales", "stores", "pizza joint"

hmmm

rhino what boys like (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 18:22 (eleven years ago) link

"The store sent them back to the plant" = American

"turning their mums into a 24-hour taxi service" = Britishes

rhino what boys like (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 18:24 (eleven years ago) link

you've never had it so peachy

difficult listening hour, Wednesday, 24 October 2012 18:25 (eleven years ago) link

in the future, every facebook chain letter will make it around the world, picking up regional slang, and perhaps even a few non-english phrases in the middle

it really needs a few fan death refs to get the party going

d-_-b (mh), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 18:26 (eleven years ago) link

also, old people shd face up to the fact that they've helped to fuck the planet over just like every generation before and after them.

some already do. others are dicks.

post-WW2 to present pretty much did so in brave new ways, by basically converting society into an automobile-centric, fossil fuel-dependent sprawl

what i hate about those kind of macros is they're always telling you how to live your life in a kind of "Hey asshole, what you doing sitting at your work desk reading Facebook on your lunchbreak? You should be out there white water rafting and saving endangered animals and shit ~Paul McCartney"
