its funny, when you're young and look at loads upon loads of pictures of a particular band, how some of their regular clothing items become iconic to you. its especially true with indie-ish bands, or bands who are going to be wearing the same clothes often.

the cheryl, the thin man shirt, the california 86 shirt, the nike shirt, the blue adidas striped zipup, the faded grey mickey mouse shirt. if i ever saw a comparable cheryl shirt in a thrift store i would die.

xpost lolol

I own a stussy sweater that I got on clearance 15 years ago -- it still fits and I love it and I'm never ever giving it up

Hold up, Stussy is a retro cool brand now? Kids smdh

carl agatha, Saturday, 20 October 2012 01:28 (eleven years ago) link

tbrr the 90s nostalgia fashion trend really weirds me out bc I was 17-27 in the 90s so pretty formative years during which I was using my own money to buy my own fashion choices and a lot of those things don't feel retro to me because they still serve as a foundation for my style choices today. Like I still favor skirts and tshirts and hoodies and clever sneakers or black flats. I don't know, I'm sure some professional social commentator, proto-Andy Rooney has said this better than me.

carl agatha, Saturday, 20 October 2012 01:34 (eleven years ago) link

i think it might just be me swith the stussy thing, i havent seen anyone else wearing it tbh. also im 32 xxp

Unfortunately for my crushes on all the skaters I was a good Christian girl with protective parents so I was never allowed out unchaperoned/unsupervised. Definitely one thing I was not ever going to be able to do was hang out with boys in parking lots.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Saturday, 20 October 2012 02:58 (eleven years ago) link

lol I ended up befriending 3 skater dudes why bcz they played *badminton*

no lie

I think their parents wanted them to do 'social activities' so they would show up and lol their way thru games. I was so crushed out I would sit with them while they graffiti'd the gym bleachers bcz I was so nerdy they woudln't get in trouble if they were hanging out with me u_u

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 20 October 2012 03:06 (eleven years ago) link

i was into pop punk and the beastie boys and wore huge pants so yeah i hung out with skater dudes and was in love with all of them probably

(♥___♥) (roxymuzak), Saturday, 20 October 2012 04:11 (eleven years ago) link

If we're talking high school, I think I predated you all as the sour/dour velvet blazer wearing grouch who people found "hard to talk to" and "standoffish". For a while people called me Beetlejuice (because they were stupid). I say this with the understanding that I was grouchy, guarded, and not the easiest person on earth to talk to. My best friend at school was the bubbly punk princess who everyone -- and I mean everyone -- wanted to sleep with. Compared to her, I was an alien. Thinking about this is making me so nostalgic!

(♥___♥) (roxymuzak), Saturday, 20 October 2012 04:36 (eleven years ago) link

That was when I was young, maybe like 14. I remember it really clearly because it was at a store on FI and I took a ziploc back full of singles (I was busing tables for my parents) to the store and paid for it in basically all coin and singles.
