Refresh my memory. The daughter-- was she real or fake? I honestly can't recall.

the daughter was eventually revealed to be alex in nyc

You're confusing Luna with Burmakitty and her daughter Aja... I still think Aja was real though, or at least I can't imagine what anyone would get out of such a long and boring fakery.

strongo i realize how that sounds but there was context. "oh hey i'm picking him up at the airport, talk to me as i wait" etc, then you hear car door open and close, dude get in and start bitching about his flight etc. no doubt you think i'm a moron but whatev, doesn't matter to me if you think he's real or not or anything else about this whole deal really.

i just said this to another ilx off-board but it seems germain so: "you know the minute i typed that i was like 'wait minute...why do i care?' this feels like bringing back the villain of top-rated season number six to spike interest in season number 12."

Thanks Tuomas, I was totally conflating luna and burmakitty.

What was the gist of Nabisco that day? I don't remember any of it.
Husband had to stay in LA until Fall of last year. Don't know why there was that gap between her moving out and him joining her, but there's many plausible reasons for that. He insisted they were never divorced or seperated, but he knew for years before ILX she had been telling people online she was divorced.

The key is the whole 80% truth-20% lie. If everything you tell is a lie, it all crumbles quicker and with less pressure. Bedrock of truth to give the "active ingredient" lies more vigor.

For people who don't remember what happened back then, pretty much all the important stuff (not counting Chaki's earlier "fake" cries) is in this thread:

I've been going through that thread myself starting from here Not location specific, No rules: Welcome to ILX heaven

I noticed that the less we spoke the less plausible she was; she didn't remember what she'd told me because the gaps were longer and longer and she'd reference something casually (as if she'd mentioned it to me) which to me was totally out of the blue.

It's a good read. I was in NZ when it happened so it wasn't until the "hotdog down my hallway" lady thing that I went back and immersed myself in that thread.

still feel like there's a movie and/or reality show in all this

Seriously. She scammed so much money, it seems much more sinister than the Catfish story.

I was away from ilx because of medical issues when Luna day happened, it was fascinating to go back and read later. Luna had always seemed off to me -- not because I thought she was scamming people out of money or anything, but there was just something very saccharine and twee about her that rang false. And the pictures seemed fake. I thought she was just a shut-in who wanted attention, not a genuine con artist.

this has all been v. enlightening, i always assumed luna was a dude pretending to be a woman or something; i guess that could still be the case.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 18 October 2012 17:07 (eleven years ago) link

I don't really see how what chaki did was 'heroic' - why didn't he just come out with it instead of confusing and upsetting people?

(This is from the perspective of someone who never had any interaction with luna ever, so I certainly wasn't a defender of her back in the day. Whoever said chaki had a reputation for being an asshat to women and people thought he was continuing that persona was otm, though.)
