Nietzsche said that, "Emerson is a person who lives instinctively on ambrosia - and leaves everything indigestible on his plate." I know he meant this as a dig at ole Ralph Waldo but Emerson's is pretty much the only way I can deal with ILX. If there's anything real between me and an ILXor and stuff gets bad or weird or anything, I'll take it off-board. If there's nothing real between me and someone and they want to start a fight, I'll yawn and go look at cat gifs or whatever.

$50-$75K is too staggering for me to even joke about

I keep typing some tongue in cheek posts around that whole idea and then going "you know what, that's a decent yearly salary for someone" and then deleting them

darraghmac, say someone starts an argument in a pub, and one person chooses, instead of having a massive row in the pub and dragging everyone into it, to go home and complain about the argument in their own house, to the 2 or 3 people hanging about their kitchen.

If you then follow that person home, and hang around outside their house, eavesdropping on their conversations in the hopes that they will say to their housemate "oh god, I just had the worst argument in the pub, X is jerk" 1) do you get to complain about what you heard while eavesdropping at their kitchen window? 2) if you then run back to the pub to tell everyone "this is what Y said about me! isn't that TERRIBLE?" in order to start another huge row about it, does that make you more or less of a jerk than the person who chose to turn away and just go home?

Oh my god, it's terrible that I huffed "ugh, poster X is the worst" to 5 Cornish enthusiasts (and Four Tet) in my twitter feed! This is the seriously worst thing in the history of ILX, and this means I completely deserve the pile-ons where people discuss my mental health and compare me to a woman who created an entire false identity in order to con posters out of money.

I assume it was for attention/sympathy, N. I went through a few "shed a tear for me" stories she had told over the years w/husband last night, and he dismissed all of them.
Yeah I deleted a few attempts to make light of the 50-75k. It's just awful. I seriously feel nauseous still about it.

I totally failed to notice it even building because I'd managed to almost completely overlook Luna for the several years she was posting. Largely due to her being one of the more content-free posters we've had over the years I actively avoided clicking on her threads.

Very well, e., I shall respond to you one very last time (and sorry, almost everybody else): if you analyze the grammar of a sentence closely in order to find offense and you are not primarily interested in shaming the composer of the sentence, you are probably not very bright. If you respond to not-clearly offensive language with deliberate and crude insults, you are probably not very bright. If you think I was confused as to whom I was talking about in my initial, admittedly snide post, you are not very bright. If you do not understand that the adjective "oxymoronic" can be properly used without saying that that noun modified by that adjective IS an oxymoron, you are not very bright.

Shall we leave it there? I think I'll leave it there.

Hadn't heard that bit.

In August, I think. I have no idea what to think but I mostly don't care much anymore. If nothing else, even if she were entirely truthful, who the fcuk moves across country w/o a job and then fails to get anything for a year and a half, and also expects sympathy (or $50K, really?!) while tending to a teenage son and a pack of dogs? It's a sophmore manoeuvre.

Very well, e., I shall respond to you one very last time (and sorry, almost everybody else): if you analyze the grammar of a sentence closely in order to find offense and you are not primarily interested in shaming the composer of the sentence, you are probably not very bright

You denied using a word because you used a synonym of the word. You then said that your use of a conjunction meant that those of us taking offence were in the wrong. I pointed out that your use of the word was either offensive or redundant. I was not interested in shaming you, I was interested in pointing out that what you said *was* offensive to me. With the perhaps naive possibility of you reiterating your statement in a less offensive manner in mind.

If you respond to not-clearly offensive language with deliberate and crude insults, you are probably not very bright.

How about responding to someone who escalates their offensiveness instead of drawing it back with deliberate and crude insults? Of course you could say that swearing at all is an indicator of being not very bright, but I think you'll find the weight of history against you.

If you think I was confused as to whom I was talking about in my initial, admittedly snide post, you are not very bright.

I don't believe I suggested that. I do believe that I challenged you to clarify and gave you a route to being less offensive, and you refused to take it.

If you do not understand that the adjective "oxymoronic" can be properly used without saying that that noun modified by that adjective IS an oxymoron, you are not very bright.

But the statement was not oxymoronic. You had the opportunity to clarify why you believed it was, but instead you decided to call me stupid. And so I called you a cunt.

Shall we leave it there? I think I'll leave it there.

Okay, bye then.

I was working in a cornfield in Nebraska on Luna day, with a gang of fellow migrants. As the news filtered in we all downed tools and wandered, bleary-eyed, into the master's house. Of course we weren't supposed to listen to the transistor radio but it was as if nothing mattered anymore. He told us all we could go home early and we sloped off, not knowing what to think, not even caring to pick up our jackets and pails from the field.

When I arrived back at my shack my wife lay slumped dead on the table.

who the fcuk moves across country w/o a job and then fails to get anything for a year and a half, and also expects sympathy (or $50K, really?!) while tending to a teenage son and a pack of dogs? It's a sophmore manoeuvre.

The most infuriating part (well, one of the most, it's hard to sort them all out) is that with the money she was gifted she bought a Mustang (she already had a relatively new VW Tiguan), paid rent (at a house I couldn't afford w/my legitamately earned salary, I think), and spent the rest on booze, weed, (husband said she'd go out multiple nights per week, spending $60 on drinks, $40 on food, plus xtra beer for the band she was a groupie of), random trips (including at least 1 to go sport-fucking with HS bf she was cheating on husband with). I think she moved out of LA February 2011, so it's been less than 2 yrs that she took to burn through all that cash.
