So I've kept in contact with "Luna" over the year yada yada. Tonight, her "ex" husband got into her Words W/Friends chats, including between me and her. He's never been divorced, or even separated from her. She swindled [another guy] to give her 50-75k. She would do nothing but talk shit about him to me, and I'd keep asking her well then why do you still talk to him? Guess I know now. Fuuuuuuucked up people out there man.

Should I interpret this that her husband knew about her swindling people and pretending to be their "girlfriend", even though they're still living together? How does he feel about it?

Eh, once the truth came out, I don't think anyone was "protecting" Luna. Some of us were protesting against Chaki's comments at first, because at the time it felt like he was just doing a personal attack against Luna, but when other, less hot-headed posters started revealing more info about this whole case, there wasn't anyone protecting her anymore. And Luna herself had already stopped posting by then.

It's very sad and disappointing, but it does reinforce the one unwritten rule regarding the internet.

The mod edits were made at my request and were designed to protect someone other than the person who this thread is about. The mod in question has acted with great courtesy and kindness here - now why don't you STFU.

Er, you said we were "protecting the insane", but at that time we still thought she was a regular poster who was attacked by Chaki. There were some ILXors who knew more about this case, but they didn't post what they knew on ILX until after Chaki's comments. As for the mod edits, I assume they were because there was some sensitive info about third parties who don't necessarily want this whole case be laid out on a public message board.

That said, I read this before the comments and understand the sensitivities involved, but I think it should be said that cuts DO involve an ILX regualr who was harmed greatly by Luna's actions, and I think omitting that only protects Luna. I also think there is a current situation happening that indicates that this board doesn't quite know what to do when the truly messed-up and bad do their thing online.

There should be a movie made about this. Jennifer Garner can play the fake version of Luna.

I think the mod in question did exactly the right thing in editing the post the way he did, in that he left enough detail in there while removing the names, and I'm not sure why this would be seen as "protecting" anyone.

x-post: The detail that the injured party was one of us was cut, and I think that needs mentioning. The other details that were removed are, I suppose, understandable, but they also would have made it more clear that Luna's behavior was truly, deeply fucked-up and wrong.

No. Your innocence game doesn't amuse in this case, Tuomas -- you can read the I Must Protest and Mod Request boards in the last week and figure it out. I don't want that particular destructive behavior on this thread, so I won't say the name.

I still have some Words with Friends chats on games on my phone that ended a few days ago so it's not like it's impossible or even that unlikely; I just wondered what the level of contact was because I would just assume anything coming from that direction would be more untrustworthy character work.

Well who the fuck knows, it could be her, right? At 1st I thought it might be, but the way he was talking, the things he was telling me were just so completely different than anything I've ever gotten from her. Everything he said rang true, and painted her in a negative light. He gave me full names of friends (one of whom had legal issues that are googleable) which she had only ever identified by 1st name.

Liars still have a consistency in tone, style, y'know? How quickly he was responding, his emotions and background details...it convinced me. I realize you may think I'm unreliable detective here, so without being able to show you all of the back n forth between us, don't know how to convince anyone here it really wasn't her. It was enough to convince me and I have plenty of reason to be skeptical.
Anyway, husband says he's now done with her, chats between me and her were proof she had been cheating on him with her HS boyfriend. (and I confirmed she'd also been at least fucking another member in said bf's shitty bar band). Yeah I think he was benefitting from the $$ too, and was in denial of the full scope of what she was doing (re: the swindling: "he needed someone to talk to, and she needed $, so they both got something out of it")

I think I can guess from the conversation since what the edit was, and am glad it's not there any more. I can think of one obvious name who hasn't come up (but maybe some of you were thinking of) that would have a real story to tell, but he hasn't posted here years.

I wasn't talking about Chaki's ban, I was referring to when he first made his allegations against Luna and people were calling him a liar and an asshole.

It was out of the blue. We don't have much of a relationship other than online phone games and the occasional text, so all she'd need to do to terminate contact is like not contact me. I mean I was already scared off all those years back from any deeper relationship than what I just described.

chaki was an asshole and was very...obtuse when posting, so it was difficult to take anything he said seriously

Oddly enough, I run into Chaki all the time irl.

He also had a track record of being abusive and rude to female posters and did so a couple of times on that thread. So it's hardly surprising that some people didn't immediately believe him, especially if they hadn't been following the situation closely, and given that L was a very good liar.

Fair enough, but I think sometimes being nice/not causing drama gets valued over protecting scammers or other shady people.

You can do both, and you're more effective at the latter if you've done the former
