also had to get past wayne fumbling w/ a guitar while wearing jeggings during that song at the vmas

I never did get past it not being "I'm Not A Star" :/

This thread = 1,000x more entertaining that the album it's about
― Raymond Cummings, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 10:48 (eleven years ago) link
nope to which j0rdan?
― heiswagger (rennavate), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 15:02 (eleven years ago) link
i think j0rdan was saying carter 4 is a toilet. although rennavate's post seemed to misunderstanding whiney's post re: the song title "john."
as far as unworthy blockbuster rap albums go, you could do a lot worse than carter 4. it's more bland and overly familiar than outright bad.
― some dude, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 19:48 (eleven years ago) link
Yeah. It had some songs but was mostly bland and uninspired. I don't know why everybody hates How To Love though. That's a pretty good song.
― Gelados n cream (longneck), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 20:02 (eleven years ago) link
The singles are almost all better than I remember them, and there were a fair amount of them, so by that measure the album did what it set out to do
― Evan R, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 20:06 (eleven years ago) link
Also forgot about that closing track where Bun B, Busta and Nas all kind of kill it, but Wayne never shows up and it's just as well
i grew to appreciate "How To Love" over time, as much as i wanted to dismiss it outright

i was a pretty big fan of this dude at one point but to me this shit is unlistenable

This is what I needed right now.

what's with the voice, he doesn't sound like himself?
― niels, Saturday, 29 September 2018 08:09 (five years ago) link
on first listen this is disappointing
― niels, Saturday, 29 September 2018 08:17 (five years ago) link
That Kendrick verse is possibly the worst thing he's ever done, unless it was tongue-in-cheek, in which case it's only one of the 10'worst things he's ever done

This albums is pretty good, people. What is wrong with you? Lol

― J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 September 2018 01:29 (five years ago) link
yeah this is far from unlistenable lol
― dyl, Sunday, 30 September 2018 14:23 (five years ago) link
I dunno, on the collaboration with Kendrick he sounds like himself, albeit older and more weary than in his prime years back
― curmudgeon, Sunday, 30 September 2018 14:47 (five years ago) link
the flow is super different on mona lisa. but i like it.
― Trϵϵship, Sunday, 30 September 2018 14:49 (five years ago) link
sounds kinda like young thug which is weird bc those guys are not friends
― Trϵϵship, Sunday, 30 September 2018 14:50 (five years ago) link
He varies the flow on it -- some parts sound newer but other verses seem old-school
― curmudgeon, Sunday, 30 September 2018 17:36 (five years ago) link
otm, even on first listen it's so much better than Tha Carter IV, which was such a letdown after III. it's been 7 years (?) since I listened to a new lil Wayne album and this is good
― flappy bird, Sunday, 30 September 2018 21:57 (five years ago) link
was thinking recently how lucky we are that Wayne is still alive, how lucky he is. so many more rappers OD'ing in their 20s than in decades past
― flappy bird, Sunday, 30 September 2018 21:58 (five years ago) link
yep, I had that exact same thought. It made me appreciate this even more. If you had asked me couple of years ago I would have said the chances of Wayne actually growing old w a certain sense of dignity were close to zero. But here we are.
― human and working on getting beer (longneck), Sunday, 30 September 2018 22:40 (five years ago) link
he's not old though
― Trϵϵship, Sunday, 30 September 2018 23:26 (five years ago) link
*ageing - he was starting to sound old a few years ago. Now it's more like he has matured.

I like 'Mess' a lot. Really the whole last chunk of the record is the best part.
― change display name (Jordan), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 14:21 (five years ago) link
totally agreed. there are 5 or 6 tracks that are completely worthless, and most of them are near the beginning
― nba jungboy (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 14:24 (five years ago) link
Don't Cry is really good

“Mona Lisa” is fucking weird & unpleasant, don’t know why people like it.
Overexcited high-pitched Wayne flow is probably his worst stylistic development in the last 3 or so years.
