Yes that one was delightful.

Also can someone tell me how the fuck a "pensioner" is going thru $700 a quarter in elextricity let alone twice that? Does she live in a 6 bedroom mansion in Peppermint Grove or something?

Una Stubbs' Tears (Trayce), Thursday, 11 October 2012 05:15 (eleven years ago) link

FYI 'Scandalands' is the worst book title in history.

btw I hope they discover all that controversial electricity that pensioner has been charged for has been used to power a gnarly hydroponics setup

Don't Go Home With Your Hadron Collider (King Boy Pato), Thursday, 11 October 2012 08:30 (eleven years ago) link

Electricity services are odd. Despite usage being unchanged, our bills says CO2 emissions have doubled. Did they find a seam of extra-dirty coal or something?

some creepoid came round to allegedly install ours and tried to enter the house without asking (thankfully the screen door was locked). apparently they needed access to the mains (the website and other documents contradict this) and when told to ring me to organise a time when i was there they declined and disappeared in a hurry. scamola!

ian curtis e. bear (electricsound), Friday, 12 October 2012 03:12 (eleven years ago) link

Oh shit!

Una Stubbs' Tears (Trayce), Friday, 12 October 2012 03:29 (eleven years ago) link

And yeah no they dont need to get into the house to put a smartmeter on, they did mine when I was at CHusan st with a locked up house, so Im sure they just replaced the main box on the front outside wall.

Maybe that was a robber :(

Una Stubbs' Tears (Trayce), Friday, 12 October 2012 03:38 (eleven years ago) link

lol i just googled "smart meter scammers" and came up with a jillion websites that say STOP SMART METERS and SMART METERS ARE A GOVT SCAM .. wow, the tinfoil contrail parade are out in force on this one! I had no idea.

Una Stubbs' Tears (Trayce), Friday, 12 October 2012 03:41 (eleven years ago) link

Ha. Smart meter installators came to my folks' house, insisted that a smart meter be installed, then refused to do it because the point where the 'leccy comes into the house isn't in an OH&S suitable spot to connect to. They're now in an interesting position of making all the demands and holding none of the cards.

Forget Reddit, the worst people on the internet can be found in the comments under this column: http://www.thepunch.com.au/articles/A-blow-to-single-parents-on-the-eve-of-anti-poverty-Week/

Doping Makes Your Arm Strong (King Boy Pato), Monday, 15 October 2012 10:40 (eleven years ago) link

This sorta dovetails into those columns doing the rounds from those forty-something white male typing monkeys at News with the stunning argument that "suburban men hate Julia Gillard because blah blah blah we have penises".

Doping Makes Your Arm Strong (King Boy Pato), Monday, 15 October 2012 10:42 (eleven years ago) link

stutchbury's argument on yesterday's insiders was fucking atrocious

abbott's not really a misogynist and gillard was just 'ranting'

set the controls for the arse of your mum (sic), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 00:24 (eleven years ago) link

The bars were originally made by Mackintosh's at their Halifax factory but in recent years are now made in a factory in Castleford in West Yorkshire. Toffee Crisp was due to move to Rowntree's Fawdon factory in Newcastle. However, because of a fire at the Fawdon factory (the week before the final production run at Halifax), this did not happen. The staff at Castleford hurriedly reformulated the bar (unofficially because it wasn't intending to make the bar on the extruded plant in Castleford) and the old-style bar which was made in metal moulds, changed into an extruded bar which allowed it to be made without the investment in a moulding plant

set the controls for the arse of your mum (sic), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 00:24 (eleven years ago) link

The idea for Toffee Crisp bars originated after an idea from John Henderson, the great-nephew of John Mackintosh ā€“ his wife Edith used to make Rice Crispie and chocolate cakes for their two children ā€“ he took some of these to the factory, and work began on developing a new product in the early 1960s. When the chocolate coated crispy bar was submitted to the Board they felt it needed something more, so after a lot of work from the experimental department, a soft toffee was added along the top, and Toffee Crisp was born.

set the controls for the arse of your mum (sic), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 00:24 (eleven years ago) link

The bars are sold in a bright orange wrapper with the words "Toffee Crisp" written with rounded lettering, bright yellow in colour with brown shadowing taking up most of the front. The texture of the bar is varied with the chocolate coating and the filling. A typical Toffee Crisp bar contains 12.2 g of fat, 8.0 g of which is saturated and 229 calories (11% of an adult's Recommended Daily Amount). Prices can range from 45pā€“65p.
