fall is so rich in sounds that it makes me wish there were a machine to record the season's smells. (no fart jokes pls)

i feel like i've only worn black, grey and dark blue for the past week+
which is a change in my style but not necessarily a conscious or desired one

lol smell machine

I like LL's suggestion

and I hope that it results in your personal style being John Muir knee breeches at the very least. And a walking stick!

srsly, it's a cool idea

question: when did dressing become "styling"?

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:08 (eleven years ago) link

(i just got a stupid email from an internet store saying "Styling for Fall doesn't have to be costly..." but i've seen it all over. creating an outfit = styling, wearing = styling, wtf is styling?!)

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:10 (eleven years ago) link

Oh, I know. A girl I know has a blog and all the captions are "styled by me!" when the picture in question is of, eg, a girl in a tshirt with a watch on.

Teach me your powers, super stylist!!

Ty for finally getting that rant off my chest!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:14 (eleven years ago) link

I am wearing these clothes! = styling

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:19 (eleven years ago) link

I always hated magazines saying 'how to wear ____'

kinder, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:41 (eleven years ago) link

styling is kind of a gestalt, isn't it? it's not just individual pieces & accessories & grooming, it's how they all work together as a whole.

Goals for 2012~!!

^ Keep the short hair.
^ Maybe have shorter hair!
^ Sew!!!! In spring, probably, because spring clothes are easier.
^ Collect shorter straight skirts instead of below-the-knee pencil ones, because squared-off look is more in keeping w the rest of my look than the whole '50s bombshell shape.
^ Wear shoes that I don't have to fight to keep on my feet: things that lace up or have straps. This is a tragedy because I ADORE tiny little skimmers/flats that are mostly open, but they pop off when I walk and my feet can't handle the extra strain.
^ Buy at least a few expensive bras

Shorter hair accomplished!
Straight skirts in progress!
Oxford shoes, 1 pr acquired (more still TK).
Bras...2 new purchased, neither especially fancy but serviceable. This goal half met, let's say.

Not bad for early October?

I find kiddy-style ear muffs more entertaining than those headband things, if ears need to be warmed. But if anyone can make that thing fabulous, Lechera, it's you.

grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 20:21 (eleven years ago) link

i vote snow bunny, LL

turban is cuet!

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 20:22 (eleven years ago) link

Also I wore those headbands made out of fleece to downhill ski in the '90s and just personally I cannot go back there style-wise.

grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 20:22 (eleven years ago) link

i don't need it, was just wondering if it was hideous or would make me feel like a hollywood starlet on a ski vacay!!

passion it person (La Lechera), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 20:26 (eleven years ago) link

Those two things are not mutually exclusive!

grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link

I wd add some plumy ostrich feathers behind that beaded gew-gaw btw.

grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i don't think i can pull this one off
maybe if it were a hat

passion it person (La Lechera), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 20:39 (eleven years ago) link

all you need is:

giant glasses
huge swing coat
bejewelled cigarette holder
poodle on a leash
packard with a chauffeur

boom, you're golden

That turban screams 'wacky knitting lady,' which is a look I *have to* endorse.

Would wear an Elizabeth Taylor style turban... with a kaftan!

seven months pass...

I never really could have predicted that in July of 2013 I would purchase a pair of high waisted turquoise leopard print dress pants at Target, but there they are hanging in my closet. I bought em. I haven't felt this flummoxed by a garment I brought home with me in a long time. I think they might look ok with heels, but under what circumstances would I wear them? Are they ok for work? Going out? Any old time? No clue when I will wear these bizarre dress pants.

Also I now have kitchen curtains that enjoyed a previous life as a caftan.

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 26 July 2013 15:23 (ten years ago) link

i want to revive the caftan

⚓ (elmo argonaut), Friday, 26 July 2013 15:25 (ten years ago) link

You know how to work a toga iirc?

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 26 July 2013 15:26 (ten years ago) link

loungewear for casual entertaining! i think it's a concept worth revisiting.

i am having trouble imagining those pants tho

⚓ (elmo argonaut), Friday, 26 July 2013 15:27 (ten years ago) link

i agree with you wholeheartedly
re pants: i'll take a pic, hold on

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 26 July 2013 15:28 (ten years ago) link

Wd wear w heels, with little flat skimmers, or with ankle boots, based on just that description. It is possible that you'll have to schedule more rock'n'roll calendar events to wear them to tho?

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 26 July 2013 15:28 (ten years ago) link

i think they may be more like work pants?
they would look cute with my white boots though...i just don't know where they will end up. i just knew that for some reason i had to have them.

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 26 July 2013 15:40 (ten years ago) link

i already have some scheduled, don't worry -- they will get better costuming than these pants for sure

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 26 July 2013 15:40 (ten years ago) link

hahaha you're all horrified by my pants

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 26 July 2013 16:03 (ten years ago) link

Work pants, definitely.

Lawyer... SUAVE... (carl agatha), Friday, 26 July 2013 16:07 (ten years ago) link

they are work pants i could tolerate
i loathe wearing Women's Professional Clothes so much

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 26 July 2013 16:09 (ten years ago) link

um LL I totally dig your pants

they could be work pants, or party pants --- I endorse you wearing them a lot :D

the pen is mightier than the penisword (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 26 July 2013 16:23 (ten years ago) link

I recently purchased a pair of leopard print stretch-denim capris that conflicted me hugely because honestly, printed denim just reminds me of the dirtbag moms with bleached hair in my hometown

but I wear them all the time and they're kind of exciting I can't explain it

the pen is mightier than the penisword (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 26 July 2013 16:24 (ten years ago) link

i like those LL.

my big change this year was that i stopped wearing contacts (for the most part) and started wearing glasses.

fervently nice (Treeship), Friday, 26 July 2013 16:26 (ten years ago) link

my new change is I have a whole bunch of skirts and I now wear SKIRTS a lot

the pen is mightier than the penisword (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 26 July 2013 16:30 (ten years ago) link

LL when you were describing them they sounded awful but now I want them!

kinder, Friday, 26 July 2013 17:07 (ten years ago) link

The pants are so much more classy than I expected!! I love them! (I say this as someone who owns a leopard-print twin set.) Totally work pants and I would wear them with tiny pointy flats or diminutive heels with an open vamp, but I know you like to mix things up more than I, kooky vintage girl, do.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 26 July 2013 17:25 (ten years ago) link

I was going to embrace them if they were crazy/trashy/costumey, too, but I'm glad to see they're so wearable for practical things.
