oh man was checking for this thread

i watched like the first 3 seasons of this show a week or so back, dug em, then watched like the first couple eps of season 4 and, iono, the jokes weren't hitting. it worth watching seasons 4-6?

fadanuf4erybody, Sunday, 30 September 2012 00:33 (eleven years ago) link

Season 4 is kind of a dip but I think it recovers quite well in next two seasons, even if it isn't up the standard of the earlier stuff. Lots of lolz to be had at any rate.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Sunday, 30 September 2012 00:42 (eleven years ago) link

Seasons 2-3 definitely the peak for me, 4-5 not on par but still best sitcom on tv. Season 6 without a doubt kind of lame, by 30 Rock standards.

Claudia Schiffer Kills Frog (Leee), Sunday, 30 September 2012 00:43 (eleven years ago) link

If you ask fifteen 30 Rock fans this question, you will get at least fourteen different answers (e.g. I thought 6 was a vast improvement on 5).

i'm gonna take the old "lack of consensus about best/worst eras proves how consistent they've been" tack

some dude, Sunday, 30 September 2012 01:05 (eleven years ago) link

last year was def a comeback year imo

Clay, Sunday, 30 September 2012 02:47 (eleven years ago) link

I wouldn't say the show ever got anywhere near legit bad, but there were two very distinct dips when it was much less great. But the show bounced back both times.

Old Lunch, Sunday, 30 September 2012 02:55 (eleven years ago) link

i loved the show from the beginning but the only episodes that i really don't enjoy watching now are the first few, the rhythm was just not there yet

presumably when donald glover was busy with other projects, right

j., Sunday, 30 September 2012 03:19 (eleven years ago) link

last year bummed me out so bad, i actually stopped watching halfway through. it coincided with me being more busy anyway but i was really a fanatic before that and would always defend the show earlier when others said it was slipping.

la goonies (k3vin k.), Sunday, 30 September 2012 13:29 (eleven years ago) link

lucky you, when you realize how stupid it was to stop watching you'll have hilarious episodes like "Meet The Woggels" and "St. Patrick's Day" waiting for you

jaz a make wardance (some dude), Sunday, 30 September 2012 13:38 (eleven years ago) link

Last year was great. And the lows on this show are not very low, it's been super consistent for me. That Leap Day episode was probably my favorite from last season.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Sunday, 30 September 2012 14:29 (eleven years ago) link

man people here got so bent outta shape when anyone would interrupt the requoting of lines to say "eh this episode was just ok", but now everyone seems to at least aree every episode wasn't perfect

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Sunday, 30 September 2012 15:41 (eleven years ago) link

i disagree, it was perfect

jaz a make wardance (some dude), Sunday, 30 September 2012 15:45 (eleven years ago) link

It goes without saying.

i have a couple seasons of 30 rock to catch up on (i don't even know which ones--3+4?) but the episodes from last season i caught were very, very good.

50 Shades of Greil (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 5 October 2012 00:40 (eleven years ago) link

Yes! Witch gag was great. Raging flying Jenna was likewise great.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 5 October 2012 01:10 (eleven years ago) link

That witch gag...

Which gag?

HOMONYM!

Claudia Schiffer Kills Frog (Leee), Friday, 5 October 2012 03:51 (eleven years ago) link

No, the other one! (haha)

50 Shades of Greil (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 5 October 2012 05:09 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, I loved the HOMONYM! cutaways.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 5 October 2012 06:02 (eleven years ago) link

Paraphrasing, but this one will be with me awhile:

Can you please put this in the oven at about 200°, my snake should be comfortable while she's giving birth.

Clay, Friday, 5 October 2012 11:15 (eleven years ago) link

odd that everyone looked fatter except for Baldwin who looked skinnier

didn't notice this, but you're right

Nhex, Friday, 5 October 2012 16:37 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, kenneth looked odd, and jack was lookin' svelte. tracy was killing every line.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Friday, 5 October 2012 16:39 (eleven years ago) link

True. Most episodes have some good Tracy lines and some throwaways. Last night was ALL quality.

I love that the overarching theme this season will be the plotted destruction of NBC.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 5 October 2012 16:50 (eleven years ago) link

I knew this was going to be a return to form when Jonathan reappeared.

Matt DC, Friday, 5 October 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link

Tbh "Tank it" is the only thing that makes sense of NBC's programming decisions the past few years.

that's the gag tbh

www.toilet-guru.com (silby), Friday, 5 October 2012 20:46 (eleven years ago) link

I know but it was a good one.

controversial cabaret roommate (Nicole), Friday, 5 October 2012 20:51 (eleven years ago) link

I just saw he won't be on the 2nd season of Whitney, so that makes Alec Baldwin's barb from last night's episode all the funnier.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 5 October 2012 20:54 (eleven years ago) link

There was a write-up on Whitney Cummings in a recent Rolling Stone, and it was mentioned that her SITCOM (she also has a forthcoming talk show wtf?) is being retooled for season 2. This all feels like a Chevrolet Citation/Citation II situation.

50 Shades of Greil (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 5 October 2012 21:57 (eleven years ago) link

shit i forgot about leap day that was off the chain

farte blanche (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 5 October 2012 22:00 (eleven years ago) link

odd that everyone looked fatter except for Baldwin who looked skinnier

Baldwin got the diabetes in-between seasons and lost ~30 lbs.

Clay, Friday, 5 October 2012 22:35 (eleven years ago) link

did they decide to end the show so that everyone wouldnt catch the diabetes

lag∞n, Friday, 5 October 2012 22:59 (eleven years ago) link

Oh pear!

LaMonte, Saturday, 6 October 2012 03:46 (eleven years ago) link

Can someone explain the joke to me "It's almost like New York is a character on the show" "That's idiotic"

Can someone explain the joke to me "It's almost like New York is a character on the show" "That's idiotic"

It's what everyone said about SATC right?

kinder, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 21:35 (eleven years ago) link

it's what everyone said about every show/movie set in new york, it's a general cliche

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 21:37 (eleven years ago) link

"homophone" was such a dad joke and i loved it (i am a dad)

i'm with some dude on the "this show is very consistent" vibe btw, i guess if you care about character development and show arcs you could say that the first couple of seasons are better maybe, but in terms of just number of LOLs it's been solid throughout

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 21:39 (eleven years ago) link

homophone killed me, i would watch 30 minutes of that
