Sorry, I was making a somewhat oblique joke – the fourth entry in a lot of horror franchises goes into space

Only SORT OF a horror score, but much too urgent not to bring up here: the impeccable FSM label is down to less than 200 copies of Jerry Goldsmith's amazing music for The Illustrated Man, and there won't be any more pressed.
One of the most inventive and psyched-out things he ever did, absolutely on par with Planet of the Apes and Alien. Unrepentant abstract moog weirdness, coral electric sitars, delicious vocalese, Bartokian chamberisms, luscious 60s studio sound quality.

Great movie (until the very end).. forgot Derbyshire was involved. Now I'll need to watch it again.

Yeah I loved it! Especially the visual compositions, which reminded of Gene Colan's layouts on the Tomb Of Dracula comics. (I suppose the influence is probably the other way around tho).

Yeah I like that title better too. But WG is not a half-bad title.
Other hot tip, Kritzerland is about to do a reissue of the Carrie soundtrack which sold out in like a day when they did it before. It will be just a single CD of the complete score this time though, the 2nd cd with the shorter album program won't be included. I think it goes live this tuesday or poss the tuesday after that.
Also, after having my first listen to Bish Bosch today it was really hard to figure out what to follow new Scott Walker with. But then I remembered Howard Shore's music for The Cell and yes it is still one of the most amazing recordings of this century and a fine avant-Stygian match for nu-Scott. Everyone who reads this thread should get a cheap used copy!

okay WTF I am experiencing a crossed-streams mind explosion. Just learned that the great Leonard Rosenman (who composed the fearsomely avant-garde scores to The Prophecy, Sibyl, Fantastic Voyage, the 2nd Planet of the Apes film, Bakshi's LOTR, etc etc) was the arranger and producer on the Linda Perhacs album. She was his dentist. Help! My brain!!!
― ~farben~ (Jon Lewis), Friday, 28 December 2012 21:59 (eleven years ago) link
Add dentistry to any equation and it's going to result in a pretty severe brain fritz for me. Yikes.
― passion it person (La Lechera), Friday, 28 December 2012 22:05 (eleven years ago) link
BTW i just got hold of a few cues from Rosenman's music to Sibyl. You, LL, should hear them, they are freeeeky. Will try to remember to upload this weekend and send u link.

Apparently this song was used in the end credits of the American version of Tenebrae – which was the version that Argento and Claudio Simonetti did a commentary track for. They were not happy when it got to that part.

Crazy things have always happened when Italian genre productions come to the US. They used to have Les Baxter completely re-score stuff for American release!
― ~farben~ (Jon Lewis), Monday, 31 December 2012 18:21 (eleven years ago) link
To be fair, the reverse is also true – I think Evil Dead II was known as House V there.

Whereas House 2 made its way across the pond as Army Of Darkness 7
― ~farben~ (Jon Lewis), Monday, 31 December 2012 18:25 (eleven years ago) link
Yeah, looks like I got them reversed – my memory is based off of some international posters I saw the convention a couple years ago.
"In Italy, The Evil Dead was released under the title La Casa ("The House") and Evil Dead II became La Casa II. These were followed by three unrelated movies: Umberto Lenzi's La Casa 3 (aka Ghosthouse) (1988), Fabrizio Laurenti's La Casa 4 (aka Witchery) (1988) and Claudio Fragasso's La Casa 5 (1990). This is similar to what has happened in George A. Romero's Living Dead series starting with Zombi 2. House II: The Second Story (1987) and The Horror Show (1989) were retitled La Casa 6 and La Casa 7 respectively in their Italian releases."

(Horror conventions are populated by some weird people, by the way)
― Bound by Habitrails (J3ff T.), Monday, 31 December 2012 18:31 (eleven years ago) link
That rules. I want to establish an obscure European nation and release my alltime top 20 horror films there retitled to all be in the same series!

I don't know, I could do Troll 2 again. First one is just kind of boring – and it's not like the second one is a thrill a minute, but the WTF moments are way more entertaining.

They each have their charms! I like the part in Troll where the dad is air guitaring to Blue Cheer and JL-D as a forest sprite (unless I'm misremembering?). I basically like everything about Troll 2.
