Okay, so the Pitchfork review is pretty dead on and this newest album is mostly terrible. HOWEVER, the bonus disc of the Sonic Ranch Sessions EP is really pretty good. Each of the five tracks on that are easily better than 85% of the album proper and I'm stunned that none of them were included on the album proper. I'm not sure if this was a label decision or what, but it was a head-smackingly dumb decision.

"Funeral" was inescapable back in 2006 or 07; I liked the song when it came on the radio but I had no desire to hear the record and I've never paid attention to their output since.

But a couple weeks ago I put on that new Iron & Wine/Ben Bridwell covers album, Sing Into My Mouth, and I was surprised to find I really liked all of Bridwell's songs, far more than the I&W contributions. A lot more rootsy than the dramatic U2/Arcade Fire-esque "Funeral".

Seems from this thread that ILX thinks Band of Horses is mostly dud, but perhaps consensus has changed over the years - is anyone willing to champion their catalog or call out any underrated material?

First BoH, but the vibe is rather different. Widescreen 00s indie. Haven’t listened in a long time, but it may sound somewhat dated these days.

I still love the first album but it's increasingly diminishing returns since. The first Grand Archives record is lovely.

Lollapalooza Chicago lineup was just announced and Band of Horses is on the 5th line. Does anyone else find this surprising?

I mean, Limp Bizkit is on the third line, so who the hell knows anymore?
