Like I said, it never really clicked with me beyond the singles even though I gave it plenty of opportunities. I did delete that out of place electro song right off the bat tho. Hearing that it's your favorite album of the past few years is kind of bizarre to me tbh.

What I love most about this boy is how much he loves to sing. I could listen to "Where's The Fun in Forever" a cappella.

so otm, his is my favorite voice in r&b right now. i think the one i posted a couple weeks ago is an even better example

ok first time hearing 'the thrill' and it's kind of amazing

It's the album's sleeper imo.

The title track connected with me the quickest of any of the new songs. It may just be that the Labi Siffre sample made my ears perk up immediately. I do like the song quite a bit though, even if it's not quite as good as "Use Me" or "Do You".

"Do You" is sick, starting to get really excited about the prospect of hearing it on the radio

i don't know, i don't really like the filter on miguel's voice, and something about the instrumentation makes the song seem more meandering than it is. think it really comes into its own as a song on the album version. also prefer the hook as a totally sung thing.

I prefer the album CITS too but it still plays like a B-side: the kind of track on which he tries something without quite hitting it.

this is good, but it seems sort of...slight? some cool production and obviously there's nothing like his voice, but it's not the cinematic experience AIWIY was; there's no centerpiece like "teach me" that just leaves you reeling

yeah the double-tracking of his vocals on "how many drinks" is really nicely done, makes it sound like the song is floating away from you as you're listening to it; it's almost flirtatious

how many drinks turns amazing when he drops back into his lower register towards the end

i def heard the qualms re "pussy is mine" but it's a pretty bravely fragile, even subversive track. how often does a male r&b singer say "you make me cum"?? it's plays nice with how bombastic "use me" is

In my ordered-by-album iTunes playlist Kaleidoscope Dream goes straight into Destroyer's Kaputt, and it's not remotely jarring

Also: "babies on crack" is still unintentionally funny. Was hoping he'd rewrite that lyric.

He's made a ridiculous percentage of my favorite songs of the past couple years, but he hasn't quite mastered the album format.

Really? This feels totally coherent and of-a-piece to me, possibly because the sound is so coherent even when the songwriting goes to loads of different places.

I really like this by the way, haven't paid much attention to Miguel before now but I'm glad I got to hear all these songs for the first time at once. It's so self-assured, like you get the feeling a lesser talent would either have hedged their bets and thrown in a couple of rote house bangers OR just gone totally over-the-top with the psychedelia and produced some kind of garish Solange-does-Flaming-Lips mess.

Will admit I feared the worst on hearing the outro to Don't Look Back but he never lets the aesthetic or the instrumentation overwhelm either the voice or the songwriting, both of which are by and large impeccable.

This album is truly amazing. Love it.

hang on "candles in the sun" is a completely different version of the ADC one? awesome
