anyway I'm SUPER BUMMED I'm not in MTL ~right now~. I was gonna do a thing tonight at Casa but had to cancel my whole weekend b/c of food poisoning. It is OK. I will see Nicky Da B and Patrick Woof tomorrow

I talked about it on a couple other threads but I've had shitty shitty food poisoning for the past 12 days, three more days of antibiotics and hopefully it'll be gone. It was a whole roast suckling pig I ate on my birthday with my inlaws and they urged me to eat of warious parts of the animal that I ought not to have done (the brain, the ear). It's been a bilious, delirious and creative couple of weeks

Yeah I've lost fucking seven pounds so far it has not been pleasant. I tried to go jogging today and my thighs felt like empty garbage bags :(

omg man.. that's brutal!! where did you eat this?

(i've eaten most of those parts of the animal myself... but i guess it was properly prepared)

Oh man. I am missing Nicky da B because four days of pop drained me and I have class in the morning and your casa thing was maybe the only reason I would have stayed up but it's supposed to be great.

Patrick was A++ although pop time constraints and vocal strain limited the set to an hour-ish (though I couldn't hear it hen he sang, just when he spoke). Not sure if a jazz club set up is what I expected but the

i was kinda worried about my contribution itt being lazily cut & pasting cinema du parc listings once in a while just to draw attention to exciting-to-me film events (like, they are showing a few wong kar wai movies, soon), BUT, check it out:

this time of year is so nice. everyone has me so spooked about winter, here, but it's so good right now. it's like those days at the end of summer where, if you're out in the day just wearing a t-shirt, it's just-about too cold to walk home in the same clothes. but you can almost celebrate the season by doing that & just dealing with the fact that it's fine to be only-just too cold. everyone is all wintered up but it isn't bad, yet. i am walking around with my coat open. it's okay. i guess it will be bad soon, but at the moment it's just pretty & brisk & you feel very conscious of any exposed skin & you get home & warm up.

favourite thing today is seeing people walk those huge elliptic curves to get around the puddles under sidewalks

flopson, Tuesday, 18 December 2012 22:11 (eleven years ago) link

least favourite thing yesterday: total inability to gauge where the sidewalk ends/road begins

weather was ridiculous today.

silverfish, Monday, 21 January 2013 04:35 (eleven years ago) link

in a nice way

i am getting pretty into the realfeel weather forecast element on my phone & can't decide whether to be freaked by tonight being -8, real feel -23 WRT wednesday being actual-minus-twenty-three at its warmest.

rockism against racism (schlump), Monday, 21 January 2013 04:39 (eleven years ago) link

oh geez now it's just getting real again. I remember for the first few years I lived here (starting 2002) the whole week of my birthday (this week) was -20 to -35, usually on the colder end, often with worse windchill. The -42 windchill days I just didn't leave the house.

The wind tonight was blowing in all the directions.

on the bright side happy bd rrrobyn

i am still kinda grimly intrigued by it getting so crazy, just because this week is gonna be the first time that it is like ... transcendently bad. i have seen snow before so seeing lots of it is just part of a scale, like dreaming about snow. but i feel like minus forty or whatever is like a whole-nutha-sport. tonight was super cold & i kept putting my gloved hands in my mouth for warmth, but the brightness of the afternoon sun was so nice too. i was on a bus, it was strobing.

rockism against racism (schlump), Monday, 21 January 2013 06:01 (eleven years ago) link

friday goodness thank it's (flamboyant goon tie included), Monday, 21 January 2013 17:08 (eleven years ago) link

this morning i walked for 35 minutes from home to a warm place where i stayed for 30 min and then walked 35 minutes back and i was fine with only moderate grumbling about my face being cold.
so just wear thermal tights/long johns over yr pants, a warm coat, two scarves, a hat and put your hood up when the wind blows, and it's fine. i think the worst is having to stand at a bus stop or something. always be moving.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 21 January 2013 19:02 (eleven years ago) link

vrai canadians don't complain abt cold iirc

mookieproof, Monday, 21 January 2013 19:05 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, jeez, just get good boots, good socks, a good coat, some plain ole longjohns and the weather's no big deal.

sean gramophone, Monday, 21 January 2013 19:05 (eleven years ago) link

the other worst is having to walk over the rosemont overpass to the metro - always windy. oh how i recall the (supposedly dangerous) heyday of walking across the tracks.
xps
yep. i got good warm boots last year and wear two pairs of wool socks when it's this cold and everything is fine. except my nose gets cold and when i put a scarf over it, my glasses fog up. but hey.
