Siegbran, is that page yours?
No, it's not mine. I don't know those guys, I just discovered the site it's from a week ago, and it's surprisingly insightful.

I've got ten of them. Ah, the early teenage years of having to save up to buy albums!

I'm so embarrassed by my reference to "Teeny Marie" [sic] on this thread.

Is metal the most male genre ever?
There's not a single woman in any of the bands in that listy is there?

Rightly so, I can't think of a single good female metal band.

Why? Girls are great at other genres.

Wasn't there a Dallas Smith who played for the Bruins back in the 70s?

There was a pretty good crustcore/metal band in Ottawa in the mid-late-90s called Warfare State. They had a woman singer.

I know it's been said already but - Prometheus at #5? WTF? It's alright but it's not even close to being Emperor's best.

WTF?? WHERE IS AENIMA BY TOOL? THAT WAS ONE OF THE BEST METAL ALBUMS OF THE 1990S!!!, AND BETTER YET, WHERE IS BENEATH THE REMAINS BY SEPULTURA??? AND WHAT REALLY GETS TO ME- HOW THE HELL DO YOU PUT KORN, AND SLIPKNOT ON THE LIST BEFORE CONSIDERING SEPULTURA, OR TOOL!!!!, OH WELL, AT LEAST A GOOD PORTION OF THE LIST MADE SENSE, AND IM GLAD TO SEE THAT THEY ALSO INCLUDED COWBOYS FROM HELL BY PANTERA ON THE LIST, INSTEAD OF JUST VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER, BOTH ARE CLASSIC RECORDS!!!

I don't know much about metal. I like some of it. I don't like some of it. I'm glad they had Jerusalem on the list, as it's a pretty great album to chill out to. Other choices I approve of: Godflesh, Emperor, Hendrix, AC/DC, Kiss... though I don't know how much the last three qualify as what most people think of as "metal" today. At least in my experience, if you talk about liking metal the person will assume you're talking about speed/death metal. Weird definition, certainly.

Two Pantera albums and only one Sabbath album has to be criminal.

Why the hell are Bad Brains, Misfits and, to a lesser extent, Jane's Addiction on this list? They don't seem very metal to me.

Ian Johnson, Wednesday, 18 June 2003 20:53 (twenty years ago) link

Misfits and Faith No More are way too low!

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 21:13 (twenty years ago) link

Fuck Faith no More and everything Mike Patton has done, is doing and ever will do.
