grimly fiendish, Monday, 1 October 2007 21:56 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm worried no one else will vote for Love Less.

Alba, Monday, 1 October 2007 22:01 (sixteen years ago) link

you need another login. like this one.

simon, Monday, 1 October 2007 22:03 (sixteen years ago) link

NO

Alba, Monday, 1 October 2007 22:04 (sixteen years ago) link

mr disco by default

RJG, Monday, 1 October 2007 22:04 (sixteen years ago) link

"Vanishing Point", just because "Round and Round" will do fine without my help. Toughest ILM poll choice yet. This album is beautiful.

Lostandfound, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 02:16 (sixteen years ago) link

too hard. it's all one record for me.

energy flash gordon, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:11 (sixteen years ago) link

Easily Vanishing Point for me.

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:11 (sixteen years ago) link

Another for Vanishing Point - c'mon!

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:36 (sixteen years ago) link

But, really, greatest overall album by best band ever. Probably.

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:37 (sixteen years ago) link

i think you're probably right.

certainly, for me, it opened up and changed everything ... which was a mixed blessing because although it sent me off searching for guitars and beeps and bleeps and beauty everywhere, i never found anything that quite measured up.

i wore out my vinyl copy. but i MP3d it anyway and it's the one i still listened to, because every scratch and crackle is an essential part of it now ;)

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:11 (sixteen years ago) link

i think rjg is right, it's 'mr disco', but i already voted 'fine time'.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:26 (sixteen years ago) link

I went with Guilty Partner in the end. There's something about it.

"I always know that you'll come back to me"

Alba, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:47 (sixteen years ago) link

All the Way or Round and Round... and I think the latter pips it. But Vanishing Point as well... hmmm.

Neil S, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:00 (sixteen years ago) link

"Guilty Partner" is so fantastic.

HI DERE, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:20 (sixteen years ago) link

For some reason, despite this being one of the albums I've listened to the most in my life, I cannot remember some of the track titles on this. In my mind, I always confuse 'Guilty Partner', 'All the Way' and 'Love less'.

baaderonixx, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:29 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, they're not the most obvious of titles.

Alba, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I've only just realised that not a single one is taken from the lyrics.

Alba, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:33 (sixteen years ago) link

A lot of New Order songs pull that trick.

Neil S, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, is there a single song on this album that does?

baaderonixx, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Is the first New Order track to have the title in the song..

Ultraviolence?

Mark G, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Did PC&L come out before "Confusion"?

HI DERE, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:38 (sixteen years ago) link

yes

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:39 (sixteen years ago) link

today I would've voted for "Mr. Disco." Those synth chimes on the chorus – man.

Also: has Bernard ever sung this well on an album, like, ever?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:40 (sixteen years ago) link

He does as well on most of WFTSC.

HI DERE, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Exactly what I was gonna say

baaderonixx, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Listening to it now, it's not making things any easier!

Neil S, Thursday, 4 October 2007 19:52 (sixteen years ago) link

"Don't waste my money, baby" classic lyric!

Neil S, Thursday, 4 October 2007 19:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Sunday, 7 October 2007 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link

My first ILM poll has been swamped by others. :(

I think Round & Round is still going to win.

Alba, Monday, 8 October 2007 09:52 (sixteen years ago) link

All the way, narrowly from Fine Time and Run.
Just 'cos "it takes years to find the nerve to be apart from what you've done" has always been my personal mantra to overcome that feeling of waking up with an awful hangover and remembering all the humiliating things you said and did the night before.

Jamie T Smith, Monday, 8 October 2007 10:30 (sixteen years ago) link

I always heard "...a part of what you've done"

baaderonixx, Monday, 8 October 2007 10:41 (sixteen years ago) link

i think 'vanishing point' will win.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Monday, 8 October 2007 10:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Hmm Hi Dere seems to be with me (almost). I'll listen tonight. I hope it's as I remember it, or it will lose all its soothing power!

Jamie T Smith, Monday, 8 October 2007 10:43 (sixteen years ago) link

I totally voted for Mr. Disco, which is only the coolest song name ever.

King Boy Pato, Monday, 8 October 2007 11:11 (sixteen years ago) link

All the Way takes it for me as well. Late surge?

Neil S, Monday, 8 October 2007 12:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Voted for "Dream Attack" but I suspect "Round & Round" will win this.

baaderonixx, Monday, 8 October 2007 12:34 (sixteen years ago) link

how can you people sleep at night?

ana, Monday, 8 October 2007 13:42 (sixteen years ago) link

seriously though, if I REALLY had to choose it would be either "Mr. Disco" or "Dream Attack".

ana, Monday, 8 October 2007 13:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Prediction:

Round & Round
Vanishing Point
Dream Attack
All the Way
Mr Disco
Run
Fine Time
Guilty Partner
Love Less

Alba, Monday, 8 October 2007 17:24 (sixteen years ago) link

ana: The solution is to pick "Dream Attack".

HI DERE, Monday, 8 October 2007 17:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Agreed. If "Dream Attack" fails to take this poll, I'll set myself on fire in protest.

(not really...all nine songs could probably win a poll like this if they were on other albums)

Johnny Fever, Monday, 8 October 2007 17:56 (sixteen years ago) link

ceremony / dream attack / regret... all seem to build on each other to me. maybe just because they are guitar-centric

akm, Monday, 8 October 2007 18:16 (sixteen years ago) link

all nine songs could probably win a poll like this if they were on other albums

This is very OTM and I don't even like "All The Way" that much.

HI DERE, Monday, 8 October 2007 18:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link

That "Guilty Partner" is the least liked song says volumes about this album's marvelousness.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:05 (sixteen years ago) link

I am v.surprised by the winner. I don't suppose someone cheated, did they?

Alba, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Sorry - that sounds ungracious. Thank you for voting everyone. I love Fine Time.

Alba, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:18 (sixteen years ago) link

i'm not surprised. it's the single, and it's dancey. i couldn't see 'round & round' winning. also it's a very close contest.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 00:00 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't like Fine Time :(

baaderonixx, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 06:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah I don't know Grimly. I find the enthusiasm in this review quite infectious. Obviously, I'm already drunk on the kool-aid but I'd probably be pretty intrigued if I hadn't heard the album before.

baaderonixx, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:04 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm afraid I may have broken this poll by absentmindedly voting for Fine Time when I meant to vote for Round And Round. Putting three songs on 12 votes.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:14 (sixteen years ago) link

STEWARD'S INQUIRY!

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:16 (sixteen years ago) link

I am fully prepared to believe the lamb bleating at the end of this track is Christ applauding.

!!!

Lostandfound, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:04 (sixteen years ago) link

(Assuming it's the Christ I'm thinking of, the review is worth it for this line alone.)

Lostandfound, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:05 (sixteen years ago) link

one year passes...

wow great showing for DREAM ATTACK. i'd never have guessed. Tune!

piscesx, Sunday, 1 February 2009 02:12 (fifteen years ago) link

twelve years pass...

I always heard it as “you’ve got a lot of technique”
which actually works a bit better for me
so I think I’m going to keep hearing it that way

thanks

lemmy incaution (emsworth), Saturday, 27 March 2021 00:21 (three years ago) link

a bit surprised fine time won this actually, but it’s a great opener

lemmy incaution (emsworth), Saturday, 27 March 2021 00:22 (three years ago) link

one year passes...

Maybe you'd write me a letter
And tell me why I never met you
Our rendezvous just ended in sorrow
Without you there's no tomorrow.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 9 May 2022 14:48 (one year ago) link

About time for a relisten. (It's weird to realize I'm seeing the current version this year when the last time I saw them was for this tour.)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 9 May 2022 14:51 (one year ago) link

Yeah, I hadn't heard it in ages until a drive home last night. Late Sunday afternoon melancholia + softening weather.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 9 May 2022 14:52 (one year ago) link

Bizarre poll order, generally (but not specifically) about the reverse of my order of preference

assert (matttkkkk), Monday, 9 May 2022 18:46 (one year ago) link

Bizarre poll triangle

ignore the blue line (or something), Monday, 9 May 2022 20:30 (one year ago) link
