these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Wednesday, 19 September 2012 13:47 (eleven years ago) link

If not there should be. I suck at thrifting. In fact, I haven't actually really done it since HS when I was all about going to church thrift shops for hideous printed polyester button down shirts. I am extremely intimidated by them now mostly because it seems like you have to wade through aisles of craps to find the gems and I don't have a lot of patience for that. Anyway, if there isn't then you should start one.

One hundred percent of that dress is a Victorian little girl's day dress remade for adult women. The infantilization is amazing.

says a lot!

i thought we talked about pettipants on this thread but couldn't find it ANYWAY i bought a pair and they are the best - way better than the bloomers i had, which were too bulky under a lot of my dresses (and too short) and way better than a regular petticoat/slip bc there is virtually no way to flash anyone, anything, accidentally or even on purpose (if that's your thing)

and i really want this for winter:

i'm sure its been discussed itt but what the fuck is up with every dress/skirt suddenly having that cut where its 2 feet longer in the back?

i feel like this look exploded out of nowhere over the summer

YES! I saw tons of them at a music festival recently

Especially those sheer tunic-style dresses? All with the short at the front and long in the back

a friend who is pretty smart about fashion and trends explained it to me as "girls like to feel like a princess"

"mullet dress" is good tho, i'm gonna start using that

feeling like a princess explanation is o_O to me.

oh man I want that olive oyl dress so bad! Can it be my prize for winning? Yay!

Mullet dress does not feel princessy to me either. Confusing!

maybe she used the word "faries" in there w/ the word "princess" idk

Not picking on you gr80! Maybe we all have different ideas of what princess life is all about.

that is to say that nothing about mullet dress screams "princess" to me -- it's more like "modest/flashy" (or "flashy/modest" depending on which direction you're walking i guess)

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 00:57 (eleven years ago) link

LL is more on my princess vibe. Or ball gowns, because I was brainwashed by Disney.

My mother still has her midnight blue velvet and lace medieval-style Jessica McClintock dress from the ACTUAL '70S Y'ALL, and it's one of the ones in Jesse's poster.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 19:55 (eleven years ago) link

That dress was the definition of a princess to me forever and ever, along with this illustration from a children's book:

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/LimitedLiabilityGirl/Una.jpg

If you see a person who looks like that, you know she is a princess.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 19:59 (eleven years ago) link

Oh man, my mom loved to put me in Jessica McClintock stuff when I was kid. I found a pic recently of myself in a pink number with lots of bows and impressively enormous sleeves.

I love this but why does it have to be BLACK? I want it in, like, emerald green or something.

Nothing against black but I seem to only wear monochrome when I really want to be wearing amazing colours.

three weeks pass...

Maybe not the right thread but if you're invited to a wedding evening do only i.e. not the whole wedding part, the dress code is still the same right? Just checking I can wheel out the dress I always wear for fancy occasions and it won't be too much...?
